@braaccs @HeavyIsTheHead_ It’s not as simple as “getting subjects.” Reference panels use living people assumed to represent ancestral DNA, not actual ancestors. So how can they map ethnicities to our DNA without DNA samples from ancestors beyond 5–6 generations?

@soulfasho @HeavyIsTheHead_ the same way researchers get subjects for an experiment. they don’t necessarily need someone to have an ancestry profile in order to get the data that the ethnicity estimation is based on. if that was the case, there wouldn’t have been anything to base it off of in the 1st place
