The real historical dispute isn’t over whether these people remained cordial. It’s over what Buchanan represented. Patrick Buchanan was one of the founders of modern paleoconservatism. His movement emphasized: - the Israel lobby - using government to preserve what he viewed as America’s cultural and moral foundations He also had a real problem with the idea of liberty as guaranteed by the constitution. Today’s debates about postliberalism, national conservatism, and parts of the New Right often look back to Buchanan as an intellectual predecessor. So when Mark Levin criticizes Buchanan’s legacy, and Bradley Devlin defends it, they are arguing about which branch of conservatism should define the Republican Party, not simply about whether Reagan and Buchanan were personally friendly. The friendships are interesting. The ideological lineage is the actual issue. And once again, this is meant to show people that the actual debate that is happening within the Republican right is about the post liberal movement which has really tried to offer you skate itself and pretend like it is mainstream conservatism. Mainly because it wasn’t received like it had hoped to be received. But co-opting Maga for the post liberal right is probably not going to work. I mean, I don’t know, but I do know enough about the post liberal movement to say that I am not in favor of redefining constitutional conservatism along those lines.

Vance is most like Tucker. Rubio is most like Trump. End of summary. Whose principles and moral compass do you want to carry the Republican Party forward, Trump’s or Tucker’s?

A dark day for Hungary. Today, Parliament is adopting constitutional amendments that unlawfully remove the sitting President of the Republic and ban sitting opposition MPs from running for re-election. The former Prime Minister had already been banned from running again. This marks the beginning of a constitutional crisis that could last for years. Ironically, it is being created by the party with the largest parliamentary majority in Hungary’s democratic history. Why? Because, like their liberal authoritarian allies in Brussels, they may have won the election, but they know they deceived their voters. And they fear that, in a free and fair democratic contest, they would be voted out. A government that fears the voters will always end up fearing democracy itself.
