Statutory Instrument 59 of 2026, which prohibits the importation and trade of second-hand clothing and has now come into effect, represents a potentially significant policy intervention for Zimbabwe’s economic re-industrialisation agenda. If effectively implemented, the measure could stimulate the revival of the domestic textile and garment manufacturing sectors, while also strengthening formal retail value chains. This, in turn, may have positive spillover effects on the financial sector by creating conditions for increased formalisation, improved cash flows, and the gradual restoration of credit systems tied to productive industry. The policy also carries important employment implications. A revitalised textile ecosystem, from cotton production to manufacturing and retail, has the capacity to generate substantial jobs and support broader economic inclusion. Beyond the economic rationale, the move speaks to standards within the domestic market, reinforcing the need for a more dignified and self-sustaining consumption framework.

@ProfJNMoyo Some countries do not have term limits ,yes, but we have seen their leaders gracefully resigning from their jobs when they feel they are not fit to lead anymore.

FORMER PRESIDENT THABO MBEKI ON TERM-LIMITS IN AFRICA: “The ANC constitution doesn't have term limits. Indeed, maybe I should go beyond that. You see we shouldn't transform issues that are really of kind of tactical, of a tactical nature, into strategic issues. The United Kingdom does not have a process of term limitations, in terms of government, it doesn't have. Neither that Sweden have, The Netherlands…many. Who says they are not democratic? You know the issue of term limits on the Continent here—again I'm coming back to our understanding, our objective reality—it arose because you had a long period of military coups and military governments and all of that. And in the process of the democratisation, the general feeling on the continent was that let's find a way of avoiding these people who perpetuate themselves in government forever. And therefore let's do time limits. It was as a reaction to what had been happening. Now the fact that the United Kingdom does not have term limits, does not make it any less democratic. Stan Rylander, I see here from Sweden. The Swedes don't have term limits. Doesn't make Sweden less democratic. If African countries decide not to have term limits, why would they be less democratic? So, I'm saying that this was the tactical response to a particular history. And now we want to turn this into a principle like it comes from the Bible or the Quran or something” Comment: It is dangerous to turn a tactical decision to introduce a directly elected Executive President in 1987—in anticipation of the failed agenda for a legislated one party one-man rule state—into a principle of “one man one vote” or universal adult suffrage like it came from the Bible or the Quran or something. Learn to distinguish between tactics and strategy or expediency and principle. Meanwhile, CAB3 does not amend any term limit provision!

How did African leaders come to embrace Western liberal environmental policies centred on “reuse,” which have, in practice, undermined local textile industries and clothing retail sectors through the influx of second-hand garments manufactured in countries such as Bangladesh and Sri Lanka?

@bla_bidza Ummm what is the difference between imported second hand clothing and imported new clothing? As long as the imported stuff are cheap and of good quality, whether new or second hand, the Zimbabweans will always buy what they can afford .just ban both.

Students of military history and modern day conflicts, please revisit Carl von Clausewitz’s book, On War. Iran obviously understands it; US-Israel have overlooked it, at their peril.

On the question of whether he is dead or alive, Israeli freaks have won - he is indeed alive. On this, I give it to you. Nonetheless, he is quite visibly shaken that Iran which they underestimated for decades has caused so much damage turning Israel into a wretched pauper's den.

This is where we are now. I topped up my tank - 30 litres for ~$70. Many people will and are feeling the pain, including those who were clapping hands for Trump and Netanyahu’s war. The results are immediate. For commuters, in Harare, each ride in and out of town is going for at least $2. That’s minimum $4. I will share later what we can do to ameliorate these severe hardships on millions our people.

@matigary We can blame or praise Nyatanahu, Iran or Trump, but that doesn't help the situation. With the abundant resources Africa has , oil to be specific, we should do all we can to make sure that our energy needs are not severely affected by conflicts elsewhere.
