Two massive 'gimme' no-nos in golf for me... 1) Never explain to an opponent why you're not giving them a putt. 2) Never apologise if someone misses a putt that you haven't given them. In both scenarios, no words are necessary. Agree?

@gatorsfan97 @JezzEllwoodGolf Right, that’s why if someone questions why they aren’t being given a gimmie, I happily oblige and tell them why. Still meat on that bone is about all the info I’ll give. Or I just tell them to grow up, be a man, and make it if it’s such an easy putt!

@brasscogg @JezzEllwoodGolf The idea and spirit of a gimmie/concession are part of the official rules - no need to pull the flag (I've had too many bounce off the stick to ever leave it in) on a 6 inch putt, tap it in, replace the flag. Anyone expecting an "its good" on a 3 foot putt is not a serious golfer

@BigSwingTempo If I knew my opponent was missing putts on purpose, I’d go ahead and press every hole for the rest of the match😆

@brasscogg Correct. However, he’s 10 strokes better than me in handicap. Better putter by far. I was playing to not lose. Happy I took the match that far to begin with

Golf etiquette question for everyone: I was playing a buddy in a match. Was tied going into the 16th hole. On the green we essentially had the same 10 foot putt. If I two putted and he one putted, he’d win the hole. So I purposely aimed and missed the cup so he couldn’t get a read. He ended up missing the putt and was big time mad I did that. I was thinking from a strategy standpoint that if I bet he’d miss the putt, I’d tie the hole. If I gave him a read, he’d be more likely to make it. Good or bad move? Against the spirit of the game?

@JezzEllwoodGolf It’s absolutely of relevance why you’ve decided not to give someone a gimmie lol If you’re justifiably denying a gimmie then it’s easy to explain to someone why, so they can quit bitching and hit the putt and learn not to ask for gimmies like that in the future

@brasscogg @JezzEllwoodGolf Because you run the risk of violating Rule 10 2a and losing the hole with any reason you give them. saying, "because that is a slippery left to right" ... you lose the hole. you effectively gave them advice on how the putt breaks, which is a no-no.

Without looking into it, I assumed it was so all games had the same rules. Some places the hydration break might be necessary, so they had to allow all games this rule

@brasscogg @RobertStock6 It actually doesn’t explain that. The rest of the world generally ignored women’s soccer until rather recently. We had a head start. ⚽️ first countries that already had the culture caught, and in some instances, passed the 🇺🇸 women in pretty short time.

The best athletes as kids are naturally good at all the sports, in the US they rarely stick with soccer for a slew of different reasons. That’s all the thinking I care to do on that topic.

@RealMikeyBob @JishSwish Total putts doesn’t say much, I agree. # of 3 putts will tell you if you putted poorly, but having none doesn’t necessarily mean you putted well that day

@brasscogg @JishSwish Putts per GIR is the stat. You could have 18 putts because you missed every green and had to get up and down every hole.

Friendly reminder since I've seen a few scorecards with this written on them today: Number of putts you take per hole (and in total) is a completely meaningless stat on its own. Gives no indication if you putted well or not. Btw- fairways hit is not far behind in that regard 😉

My story summarized the best I can ⛳️ I never really picked up golf clubs until I watched the video of @bobdoessports and @KingJames (my GUY🐐). I love watching them it looks so fun out there, and the older I get I realized how much I’m missing by not trying golf out. The day after that video I started going to this golf simulator in my apartment to try and be at least good enough to just go out and have fun with the boys, after a couple weeks I started to pick it up really really quick so I went out to the course, I was immediately shooting mid to low 80’s using rent clubs from the Stone Age. I started doing some research and it’s very rare to be that advanced so quickly. I then started watching Bob does Sports a ton (FP specifically the way he can roll the rock around the greens), then I started hitting the course at 6:30am to practice (when the Lakers got eliminated😭). My first round was May 7th 2026, I am now consistently shooting low 70’s, I’m being told by everyone around me that knows golf that I’m the fastest in world history to break 80 and break 70. My entire life has been flipped upside down and now I’m training to play in the local tournaments up here in Idaho. I just launched my social media channels about 2 weeks. What is the best divot tool? I have a two prong one but it sucks at fixing pitch marks. I usually just use a tee. I saw these on Etsy and they look pretty cool.
