@_salkinium Yeah it’s if the two shorter sides are shorter combined than the longer side

By probing the cartridge resistance, I can limit the output current by limiting the max voltage.

Probing the resistance is important because I need to control the current output. The buck converter has voltage feedback but not current. I have a 5A limit on my buck converter and a 3.2A limit on my current sensor (clearly need to change that sense resistor).

Progress on the DIY soldering station: I can control the voltage of a buck converter with a DAC. I can probe the resistance of the soldering iron cartridge by feeding 0.25V into it and measuring the current.

Reasons not to use a dedicated thermocouple reader for a soldering iron controller: 1. Shared ground treated as fault 2. No control over when the measurements are done

@Scott_Holmes I used to use them all the time in a previous life. Good for terminating parallel buses IIRC

At a meeting, someone suggested using a capacitor array. These things are so uncommon, I'd forgotten about them. Does anyone use these?

@_salkinium Safety risks are overblown when considering modern designs. Waste is a problem.

@_salkinium I don’t know German politics well enough to comment, but I don’t see any options other than nuclear. The risk of failure isn’t great enough to leave the status quo alone.

@_salkinium If we’d built them 20 years ago, we’d be patting ourselves on the back right now. The best time to plan for the future is now.
