@richarddeitsch Still don’t understand why they don’t do a network draft for who broadcasts which games each week. Would be great content.

"Our schedule is incredible. The NFL does an amazing job of putting this puzzle together. I really think all of the partners got great games. It just shows the power of how much people love football." - My last 15 years on this night talking to sports network execs.

@busterchicago No, I totally read that part and still stand by what I said. Bringing in a mid 30’s, injury prone guy making $30+ Million and paying him until he’s 39…not great Bob

No Sox game today so let’s be a little delusional: Trade Deadline looming and the Sox are 3 games back in the AL Central. Sox Get: Mike Trout Angels get: Caleb Bonemer, Christian Oppor, Jaden Fauske Who says no?

After last night's win against Oregon, UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky's updated numbers vs. Big Ten. Also posted, for comparison, is how Cholowsky fared against Big Ten pitching in 2025. There's five games remaining in conference play.

@reaganreese_ I’m genuinely curious in asking this, from the first meal, how was the roll? I noticed you didn’t grade it, but I’m a bread/roll snob and need to know!

I flew on Air Force One. I'm here to talk about the food. I’m not a foodie. I don’t have a go-to restaurant critic or strong opinions about tasting menus. But what I do have is a genuine, almost embarrassing enthusiasm for the meals served aboard AF1. My food review as a 🧵 1/7:

@Noahp245 The “hey, dey need to take Cholowsky because he sounds like a Chicago guy” is my favorite take out there. So many meatballs on Sox twitter.

I find the White Sox twitter discourse about the #1 pick interesting There seems to be a general distrust of the organization to make the “right” pick. I think the White Sox should pick Roch Cholowsky, but the reality is, the people making the decision know a lot more about these players than I do. If the front office agrees with the Twitter scouts and thinks Roch Cholowsky is generational, they’ll take him. If the organization goes in a different direction, it’s because they believe there’s a better player than Roch in this class. I’ve been around long enough to remember the Twitter outrage when the White Sox chose Garrett Crochet over Ed Howard (.556 minor league OPS)

The Chicago Pope
The Chicago Pope@TheChicagoPope·
I understand that Grady Emerson is an impressive prospect and a year ago I’d have been much more understanding of the move, but passing on Roch Cholowsky just wouldn’t make sense for the #WhiteSox for many reasons: 1. The AL Central is terrible and the Sox can compete right now. Cholowsky is not a project. He will fly through the farm system. Grady will need at least 2-3 years of development. 2. The Sox just took another version of Emerson last year in Billy Carlson, but Carlson has better power, defense, and arm tools. Emerson might have the better pure hit tool, but their speed tool is negligible and Billy fits the team structure better. 3. The Sox also have a glut of Left Handed Hitters and Emerson would add to that logjam. A Righty Bat with an advanced approach is a far more necessary need in the short term, not just the long term. Unless he becomes the biggest bust in draft history, the Sox could get Roch in the lineup by next summer. If Emerson moves quick, they’ll have him in late 2028 at the earliest and they likely have to get rid of Colson or Mune to facilitate. That would make no sense and you can’t draft out of fear. 4. The Sox already have a crowded IF with Vargas, Murakami, Colson, Chase, and youngsters like Carlson, Bonemer, Bergolla, Gonzalez, and Jeral making waves in the minors. Cholowsky has the athletic profile to shift to OF. Emerson is far too young to project that and risk wasting the first overall pick on someone who might not fit into your lineup. 5. In the 20-80 scale, Cholowsky not only has the better aggregate score, he is just the better graded hitter. He and Emerson share roughly a 60-65 hit tool depending on the scout, but Cholowsky has a 70-75 power grade on the pull side and 60-65 to all fields. Emerson tops out at 55 pull and 50 all fields. That still projects for a good pro and a 20+ HR hitter, but Roch should be a perennial 30+ HR hitter. 6. Cholowsky also brings some much needed balance to the lineup. Murakami and Colson have elite power, but both struggle with WHIFF. Meidroth and Antonacci bring great bat to ball skills but will struggle to SLUG longterm. Vargas and Braden both hit will balance, but neither have the blend of advanced plate approach and light tower pop that Cholowsky has. Bonemer and Billy are both balanced righties, but Cholowsky protects their projections. Roch is a known commodity and a clear solution to a glaring problem. 7. Having Cholowksy gives the Sox flexibility to act for both now and later. If you draft Emerson or Lebron or Lombard, you are crossing your fingers that you hit on a HS prospect 2 years in a row, something that almost never happens with the level of certainty the Sox need at #1 overall. Furthermore, you’re likely waiting until at least 2029 to know for sure. If the Sox have Cholowsky in the system and they’re in the hunt later this year, you can feel a lot better about moving a younger asset for a competitive piece in 2026. 8. Cholowsky just fits the Chicago vibe. He’s a blue collar kid who declined entering the 2023 draft to attend UCLA and build his reputation in college despite being a top prospect as a high schooler. Coaches rave about his work ethic and personality, and he embraced becoming the leader of a very good college team. He is ready to step into the big leagues in short order and make an impact. He’s fearless, extremely competitive, and draws comparisons to known MLB commodities like Alex Bregman, Francisco Lindor, and Troy Tulowitzki. Plus, that Cholowsky Polish Sausage promotion is gonna hit like crack for South Siders. All this to say… Unless he has a catastrophic injury between now and the draft, I have no idea how the White Sox could justify taking anyone other than Roch Cholowksy with the 1.01. If they decide to go another route, I’ll trust the process because they’ve done a good job drafting and developing talent the past 2+ years, but Roch feels like the easy and clear choice. I hope he ends up in Chicago.

Gonna be in LA next week. I’ve spent almost no time there. Give me your LA recs: - Golf hookups? - Must-do outdoor/beach stuff. - I’ll be going to the Comedy Store 1/2 nights. - Never been to a Dodgers game. Worth it? Food?! Go.

Mike Trout doesn’t deserve to rot away on a bad team anymore. He should waive his no-trade clause and join a contender like the White Sox for the rest of his career.

@BaseballValues @riger1984 Good news for Detroit is Cleveland and KC are not good and the Sox and Twins are hideous. So when Tarik returns in late July, it’ll be a shot of energy headed into the playoffs. They never were trading Skubal; they were always going for it in 2026.

Based on our modeling, Tarik Skubal's surplus trade value has gone from $41.2M to just $1.1M. Because he's unlikely to return before the deadline, the Tigers have lost not only their ace, but also their biggest potential trade chip, should they fall out of contention.

@soxmachine_josh @SoxMachine This is a great post, well thought out and nuanced. So much of Sox twitter wants Roch on the roster tomorrow and is ready to retire his number already. Emerson may be the right pick. Even if he’s years away, having a player of that caliber in their system is worth the wait
