@powderski Such a lost art on today’s ski slopes. At least compared to the 90s when I started ⛷️

Recovery is crucial in moguls. While it's important to ski perfectly, the key is how to recover the moment you slip. 🤔

@powderski Not collapsing the upper body ftw. Been thinking about keeping my obliques and hip flexors far apart and stretch my abs out like a tablecloth between.

Spring moguls 🌸 She skied this run thinking only two things: staying on the top of the moguls for as long as possible and not collapsing her upper body 🤞 What she keep in mind when giving ski lessons is understanding the shape of the moguls and how to control speed.

Peter Thiel: Computer science is not a science. “Things that call themselves science are fields with an inferiority complex.” “Computer science was like climate science or political science—it was not a science at all.” Via @foundersfund @micsolana
sourcery@sourceryy

Affirm CEO @mlevchin says computer science is a science, but also an art—one that LLMs cannot fully replicate: “Software engineering is an interesting combination.” “Peter [Thiel] likes to point out that no science that’s a real science needs to have its name include the word ‘science.’ Like—we don’t say ‘math science,’ we just say ‘math.’” “But, as a computer science graduate, I have a lot of affinity for the science of computer science.” “It’s also an art form. If you read code—or maybe, we used to read code for fun—some code is more elegant than others.” “You would see it and say, ‘That’s a beautifully written piece of software,’ and, ‘That’s kind of garbage, but it does the job.’” “There’s a matter of taste and elegance in programming.” “I don’t think the LLMs are going to naturally always deliver beautifully crafted, elegant, and yet scientifically correct code. So you’ll still need some degree of taste—even so much to converse with the LLM to steer it towards the right outcome.” “For that, you have to understand what you’re doing.” “The conversation with the machine around what you, as a software sculptor, would consider to be elegant, I think, will remain.”

kinda crazy how there's a million sorting algorithms and a solid chunk of them are actually practically used in different situations but there's really only one distributed consensus algorithm and basically everything is built on top of it with minor variations

Used Claude, Gemini, and Chat GPT free products this weekend to help diagnose some lower abdomen stomach pain. They were all roughly the same. All were overconfident in their diagnosis and wrong, each new piece of evidence until finally an ER CAT scan and diagnosis from a real doctor went in the wrong direction. Upon being told about the Kidney stone diagnosis they pivoted to "oh sure that's consistent with all your symptoms". Not once prior to being told what the actual diagnosis was did they mention kidney stones. NOT ONCE. Totally useless

@quantian1 The liberal position is now to support a corporation that wants to place itself, not congress, as overseer of the military and ultimate arbiter of wartime ethics. Democrats are lost in the woods. Completely intellectually unprepared for the world we are entering.

Sorry if this is woke or whatever but it is FUCKING INSANE that the DoD is explicitly, publicly trying to create an AI powered mass surveillance program of American citizens, attempting to destroy a company for refusing to comply with that directive, and *bragging about doing so*

@chooserich It's hilarious that we made AI and it's lazier than some humans. The entire lure of AI is that it is supposed to never sleep or get tired. And, yet, it's lazy.

For a country to survive, there has to be a common culture. Nobody dies to defend a “multicultural economic zone”! American culture, with its English-Scotts-Irish origin, is great and worth fighting for. Some may not realize it, but that’s why people come here. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Important segment starting at 25 : 39 in Tucker’s video on who is a “Heritage American”, a now necessary term. A young Anthony Scalia, future Supreme Court justice, upholding Anglo-American law, consciously bristled at his ethnic and religious distinction from the WASPs whom foreign professors assigned a foundational status. But then he went to England and saw it and felt it;

I like Chomsky because not only was he an idiot when he ventured outside his core competency, but when he stuck to his core competency he also got everything wrong (and by "like" I mean "do not like")
Everything Price Sufferer (but especially eggs)@agraybee

Like most mid-century linguists Chomsky thought words like "uh" and "like" were fillers to collect your thoughts. When Bill Labov pointed out that people are using them in texts and emails, and thus must have some semantic value, he said "that doesn't interest me."

in my 20s everyone was growing up together and it felt like continued improvement in character and circumstance were inevitable, but now in my 30s I know a bunch of people who have become much worse with age—angrier, more dysfunctional, more isolated. I can't figure out if it's due to the randomness of compounding life events, or if people's personalities have just had more time to steer their outcomes by this point.

What's going on in Colorado? The state, normally a migration powerhouse, has fallen off a cliff the last four years. And in 2025, over 12,000 Americans left Colorado. The biggest outmigration in the state's history according to US Census Bureau Population Estimates. Normally, over the last 35 years, Colorado adds about 30,000 people per year. So a -12,000 reading on domestic migration is shocking. Higher housing costs, return to office mandates, and increases in crime are causing the exodus.
