A little wrap-up from last night’s big win over Utah at UC Baseball Stadium. -Nate Taylor outdueled Utah’s ace Colter McAnelly last night giving the Bearcats 7 excellent innings of work including 10 K’s. It was the junior’s best outing of the season. UC will have a rested bullpen going into today’s pitching match-up of Logan Knight 5.11 ERA vs. Payton Riske 3.80 ERA. -Once again, the Bearcat offense got contributions from all nine batting positions in their order. Cal Sefcik stood out with 3 hits, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI while Derrick Pitts had arguably the biggest hit of the game with a 3 run, 2 out double in the B6. -As we’ve been seeing all year, opposing defenses are trying different strategies to stop (or at least slow down) “Bischel Ball,” and Utah played its 3rd baseman 5 steps on the (fake) grass for anyone perceived to be a bunting threat. They also at times held runners at third base in an apparent effort to discourage any attempt at a squeeze play. -The Bearcats, who had homered in four straight games, used 12 singles and a double to score their 13 runs last night. -An attendance of only 624 was a disappointment, but those that did attend were attentive and vocal, which is usually the case for Bearcat baseball.
