@RidleyDM @Opcn @queens_parents It’s not so much a “core” as it is a “fringe” Almost everyone who bikes has some occasional needs to drive or doesn’t mind people driving carefully. So you have to ask why some people lie about what cyclists are advocating for

@Opcn @queens_parents There is a core of die-hard anti-car activists but it's just wrong to say that's a majority or even all that significant a minority of people who advocate for bike lanes.

@queens_parents Nope they still sound great and converting one lane per road is just fine with everyone, no one believes that you are pushing for anything but “0 bike lanes”

@pagittarius @MichaelLangeNYC Note that Bores and Lasher are the only people to have held office in this race, so typically voters would check them out first. The other candidates have no experience, weak platforms and significant negatives. All the more that Lasher's weak showing is disqualifying

@pagittarius @MichaelLangeNYC Bores is doing better in polling despite what you would think about the power of such endorsements and support if all other things were equal. But Bores is getting a huge updraft from insane PAC spending... *against him*. Because people think it's sleazy of PACs to do that

The closer I look, the more I'm convinced that NY-13 — Adriano Espaillat vs. Darializa Avila Chevalier — is a pure toss-up. NY-12 also feels frisky. Schlossberg is fading, Conway is stagnant, but Lasher is not pulling away. Super PAC attacks are helping Bores...

@pagittarius @MichaelLangeNYC Nadler is backing Lasher & so most of the party is falling in line with that. And yet he’s polling extremely flat. It’s not good if your only votes on Election Day are county committee stalwarts

@frankmorano @CitiBikeNYC People rode bicycles for 100 years without helmets being on the market. We kind of invented this in the 80s. (It’s really important for young children, though, due to physiological differences)

@frankmorano @CitiBikeNYC They’re not strictly required and they’re not entirely necessary equipment for that kind of bicycle. Helmets are more relevant for road bikes where you ride head-forward, not upright. Helmets are recommended for all bike rides but helmetless Citibike seems fairly uneventful

@jonjonpoi2 @sam_d_1995 @NYCBikeLanes They didn't increase service that much! They fucked that up! And the towns along the routes are fighting development and new zoning, so they're getting *the same ridership*. Man, stop fucking talking. You're reading concepts out of an economics book and don't know the situation

@brianvan @sam_d_1995 @NYCBikeLanes Spending on the tracks is what lead to the increase in service… that leads the train to increase ridership and increase foot traffic. That helps the city economy grow… that more then makes up for that interest. The LIRR indirectly generates plenty of money.

I am usually pro-labor but the LIRR strike is absurd they’re already the best paid agency in the country, with average total comp of over $200K, and now they’re refusing a 4% raise? This is a perfect example of why US transit is so inefficient!

LIRR@LIRR

LIRR service is suspended until further notice because of a strike. Avoid nonessential travel and work from home if possible. We will have limited shuttle bus service on weekdays for essential workers and those who cannot telecommute Find out more about travel during the strike here: mta.info/lirrstrike

@jonjonpoi2 @sam_d_1995 @NYCBikeLanes Also, you talk like this is a profit share thing. So then we should be taking their money, because the spending on the tracks was like $13B and they're not even close to making that up with interest in fares. Not for a very long time.

@jonjonpoi2 @sam_d_1995 @NYCBikeLanes That makes zero sense. Increased service = more shifts. More shifts means more workers to cover those shifts. Doesn't mean "more workers AND pay them proportionally more with the amount of service". Everyone still has the same 8-hour shift job. A cost of living raise is fine

@DonutGup The real blame is with the city for having these crosswalks in these spots. No one's at fault for using them while they're here. But they're a bad idea. They put pedestrians in the middle of a busy downhill roadway when there are smarter places nearby to locate the crossings.

@DonutGup One thing about this is that most cyclists in the city avoid the park because of stuff like this inside - it's a constant collision risk even if you've got the ROW. Another thing is that pedestrians wander across the most unsafe crossings in front of approaching bicycles

“Trad bicycle” aka they’re going after all of them openly now, not just e-bikes This is the middle of the road, not a pedestrian path. Traffic is flying by constantly. Why was this person there? In the cars-in-park days she’d have been dead.
NYC E-Vehicle Safety Alliance@nyc_evsa

A member of EVSA was just hit by a trad bicycle in Central Park where the bikes fly down W72nd street hill entrance! Horrible redesign. Never been so many bike and e bike accidents since the negligent redesign- designed to prioritize e bikes, scooters, bikes over pedestrians

@jonjonpoi2 @sam_d_1995 @NYCBikeLanes So the very first of a long list of things you've messed up here is that LIRR operates in the red. It's not a "company". It's a state-managed corporation subsidized with general tax funds from state taxes. It also has no part in running the NYC Subway, under a separate entity.

Jonjonpoi2@jonjonpoi2·
@sam_d_1995 @NYCBikeLanes The LIRR has gotten record investment and have gotten higher ridership and revenue as a result. Workers getting a raise along with the companies increased profit margins is only natural. NYC is the only major citiy with such a subway system obviously the workers are well paid

@Wintertravel80 I mean, it's the roadway. 15mph speed limit is a joke. Might as well require training wheels too. If this is about safety, redesign the paths to be wider and the road crossings of the paths to be narrower. Would make a HUGE difference in conflicts.

@brianvan It’s a pedestrian crossing. FWIW, I strongly support a bike lane on West 72nd street but I am also a proponent of 15mph speed limit in CP and further traffic calm measures for bikes (e.g. raised pedestrian crossings where it make sense). Traffic should not be “flying”.

@InfraWeek Which has almost completely faded from view. It's also the worst place for one. They could do a lot here to redesign it to be safer and not send pedestrians toward downhill cyclists. (I've gone through it without any crashes, but people of all types do wild shit here)
