sans' protectiveness infantilizes papyrus, while papyrus' masking enables sans' avoidance

i would like to believe this was intentional

@ThundersAreCool though they could be brothers ... they could be foils !! maybe the whole font family has this ability and we just dont know it

@ThundersAreCool i think for me it would make sense for why sans is always talking about him and asking what we think of him (outside of trying to get us to be friends with him) and ANOTHER HIM. and the fact they dont use asterisks and whatever the fuck papyrus does here

@skelecest YES !!!!! i agree with u wholeheartedly. i mean, if u say u think junior jumble is harder sans assumes u r lying to appease papyrus and Praises u for it. it just goes to show that he thinks lying to him is okay if it makes him happy

@broconsans until sans is gone to admit how hard everything has been on him. he tries to protect sans from the truth just like sans does (he probably learned it from him) and because of it they’re always assuming what’s best for the other and never truly meeting one another on the same level

and i do have some separate headcanons(?) i dont believe them to be Actually canon. it is more like a close adjacent version of them? one where i impose my own fucked up bullshit onto them lmao. almost everything i draw of them is this version of them

sans hides things to protect papyrus' innocence and optimism. papyrus pretends that he knows less than he does for sans' sake. this is what makes them codependent in my mind.
