I agree with the woke left that whiteness is a social construct so-called white people are indigenous Europeans who were stripped of place-based identity yet wokeness continues to reify whiteness as an identity as it attempts to deconstruct it. A reconstructive move is needed.

@brodeur i hesitate to classify it as a 'social' network but it feels like important context for understanding the world, like a trip to the zoo

i think DAOs could embrace how parliamentary systems elect leadership instead of having temporal terms, someone should serve in a role for as long as the people they are serving in that role delegate them that authority. normalizing roles as acts of service and not ego trips

Of course, what uncle zippy calls the "progenitor style" or what we refer to as the "colonial model" type groups will still exist. This will be a different group type -- we are still not quite sure what to call it. It's "democratic", and definitely we reverse engineered a lot of Ostrum's work, so it could also be a "commons", or "member-led".

bro I gotta show you our trust graph demo, this is literally how group roles will work on Hylo soon. For each dimension of trust (role) Let each person declare on a scale of 0-1 how much they trust someone in that role Let each declaration be seen in the context where it is declared (transparency in-context: within a group, publicly or privately) Let each declaration be modified at any time Let the threshold of aggregate trust necessary to obtain a role be modifiable by all within a context Let the trust threshold be set by the average and expressed as a percentage When a person has sufficient trust, they enter automatically into the role, and obtain the powers & responsibilities available to that role While a person maintains trust above the trust threshold, they remain in the role When a person's aggregate trust decreases, due to others modifying their confidence vote, and falls below the threshold, they are removed from the role and lose access to powers and responsibilities. This is v1. The model will eventually need entropy to scale -- trust should decay or have a cliff. This is the second necessary component to public online spaces that nobody owns, or can purchase. The second is collective moderation - which we already have a version of working. Using HydroBasins or something similar, we will start recommending local groups to people. Each watershed will have buy nothing, mutual aid & disaster response groups. We will also be using RAG to recommend "crews" to people -- if there are, for instance, 50 people within 100 miles of each other that are all into regen ag, a notification is sent out to all 100 people that when 15 people opt in, the group will be created. When the group is created, it continues to be recommended to the other 85 people, and any new members who fit the vector will also see it. Sending love, catch up soon <3

From the ages of 16 to 36, I lived near this park. My father also grew up across the street, next door to the old church on Haight. This place was very special to me. I moved away to bring a baby into the world. I was heartbroken to leave, but in the end it was worth it. Here is a song that came through, in the last month I was there: O fertile valley I will miss you Reaching grasping canopy Kissing the fog with your eyes In the whispering winds, swaying With each breath, “I am alive” You in the sun, receiving its life Bathed in its beauty and indirect light Mist rising from the seas and the earth Caressing your face in the time between times Coyote and hawk, some thought they were landlocked But I know why they are here Shelter and home, to those once alone At once tender child, lover, brother, mother and crone Birds brown, green and blue Their voices in full chorus singing gratitude Sacred forest in the heart of this town Yerba buena, buena vista, gold and green crown In the hush of your night Moon dappled dancing, secret lovers delight Closer you hold the scared and the bold Bounty for the hungry, an embrace for the weak Place of love, place of peace Blessed slopes I am sad to leave O fertile valley I will miss you

do i know anyone who is thinking about insurance DAOs? i think that a kit that allows people to form an insurance DAO with neighbors, bottoms up with little overhead, could compete with the bloated monstrosity of the legacy insurance industry. x.com/owocki/status/…
owocki@owocki

insurance is the biggest scam in modern finance. you pay your policy every month. a for-profit company pockets the $$$, then when you need your policy they find arbitrary and capricious reasons to deny your claims. someone please invent transparent/fair crypto-based insurance

Touching life from my heart… I am spending more time being present in my body. In the last week, I have awakened in the middle of the night and immersed myself in healing music while doing an hour and a half of deep stretching. During the time when I created and led Earth Regenerators, you could have heard me say often that my most important regenerative practice was this deep breathing and stretching to heal and sense deeply into my own body. I am doing this again -- after three years of chronic health challenges while traveling constantly and holding the need to activate a planetary network of bioregions. We were successful at this even though it nearly killed us. Now I am focusing on my own recovery. A big part of this is to touch life. Run my fingers over the leaves. Dig my fingernails into the soil. Watch the bees dance on the flowers. Just be. Just be with life. And it is deeply wholesome.

However, we'll start with suits because they tell us something. It's true suits were more popular in the past, partly because people were more willing to accept discomfort (whether through volition or social pressure). Now people demand 100% comfort, 100% of the time.

Have you ever noticed that people dressed better in the past? Even in the summer, when it was scorching hot? Why is this? 🧵
