@BladeoftheS For mega rich, avoiding tax is a "macho" thing. Not for them, but only "ordinary" folk. Whilst RW press/MSM might be trying to drum up "support" from Joe Public, it's hard to imagine much sympathy from those paying their dues and not in the multi billionaire/millionaire class.

It is really bad isn't it when you have to pay tax to go to Eton, or you have to pay tax on your billions of pounds in farmland that you have had for 500+ years. The 98% "No actually it is bloody brilliant."

The post budget coverage is wearyingly negative. The government is in part to blame, not making a stronger case for public investment and taxing wealth (even if undermined by the OBR) But equally national turnround requires recognition of realities. Investment is a priority.

@carryonkeith As is the norm today though, facts are irrelevant. The RW press/MSM conveniently ignores actual reality, and uses this as another means of bashing Lab. Farmers who won't be affected are, subsequently, "up in arms," and ready to protest.

For those who were asleep at the back: - the overwhelming majority of farmers will be unaffected by the proposed changes to Inheritance Tax - those complaining about it are the multi-millionaires who saw investing in farmland as an excellent tax avoidance measure.

On Brexit and rejoin. I do think a lot of rejoiners/remainers are thinking slightly idealistically that the EU would have us back in any hurry. They won’t do so unless both major parties fully commit. And that’s a long way off
