One common issue with personalization in all LLMs is how distracting memory seems to be for the models. A single question from 2 months ago about some topic can keep coming up as some kind of a deep interest of mine with undue mentions in perpetuity. Some kind of trying too hard.

When I was on the ISS for my nearly year long mission, there was a telomere experiment comparing my telomeres to my earth baseline and my twin brother as a control. Hypothesis was they would get damaged and worse due to the environment. Turns out they got better. Initially NASA thought maybe it was due to exercise and diet. After I returned we learned JAXA had a telomere experiment on some small worms the same time I was there. Their telomeres got better too. Never saw the worms doing any exercise. After further study determined it was the radiation.

@repligate I used to imagine dragging the shortcut of one game onto the shortcut of another game would make a game mash-up that was equal parts both games

when i was a little kid my family had only a windows 98 computer 🪟🖥️with no internet connection, and several games on it installed from cd-roms we got from the library. my favorite games were sim park, sim tower, and sim city. but aside from playing the games, i also found the text README files in the game directories, and one of my favorite things to do was to edit the README files so that they described hypothetical versions of the game I liked to imagine existed. it seemed to me that if the computer was working as it should, editing the readme files would actually cause corresponding alternate versions of the games to exist. it's so cool that that kind of thing works nowadays.

The way I imagine this playing out is like, they start off pretty bad. Companies make low-bargaining-power employees wear them to improve their productivity with extreme micro-management. Outside of that, weird early adopters. The device is very low status, people don't like it

I'm a little surprised nobody is yet marketing a Google-Glass-like wearable device that lets AI control you like a meat puppet by giving you real time instructions

@Miles_Brundage Marshall Brain's Manna always seems so prescient of the k shaped economy and everything, but I think it was just a little too ham handed to be popular

People have been talking about Ratatouille-ing themselves with AI lately. I discussed this a while back (as did Marshall Brain, RIP). There is also something about this in Westworld but I can't say more without spoiling things. x.com/Miles_Brundage…
Miles Brundage@Miles_Brundage

The Ratatouille Economy = AI tells people what to say/do via written text (e.g. human/AI customer support/sales) or spoken instructions (e.g. retail/food service headset), leveraging human body/motor skills/voice etc.

I thought the hackernews types foaming at the mouth against github's new ui were overreacting but it's so slow for some of my PRs that chrome actually just tries to quit and kill the page

prediction markets will replace buying stuff. i want someone to bring kiwis to my house. i make a prediction market about whether someone will deliver 4 kiwis to my doorstep and load $15 into "no". a guy with an ebike sees it and picks up some kiwis. before dropping them off on my doorstep, he bets yes. he drops them off. the market resolves to "yes" and he gets $15. rest in peace, amazon, doordash, ubereats, etc.
Daniel Tenreiro@TenreiroDaniel

Here’s an example of a positive externality of liquid prediction markets: Software engineers & truck drivers today are at meaningful risk of being automated into obsolescence, but they have no way to price that risk & hedge against it. Prediction markets fix this
