cool use case of chatgpt work i heard last night: connect your family calendars and explain your kids' interests. every morning for the drive to school, have it make a podcast that talks about one kid's soccer game that afternoon, one kid's upcoming birthday, some news, etc.

This is the most straightforward and unimpeachable reason to have selective public schools. Schools can't offer advanced classes unless they can fill a classroom. If they fill a classroom, offering them isn't much more expensive than offering any other class. It's positive sum.

@noahlt Funny you picked Gregory VII. Patience's steepest climb in the whole series runs 1074 to 1174, starting the year after his election. We nearly put events on the chart but it felt too causal. The paper does test dated episodes though and 11 of 15 move the way historians expect.

This chart is a good answer: if you can place the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, or better yet Pope Gregory VII and the Fall of Constantinople, you can read a lot more out of it.
