There’s a psychological equivalent of “golden handcuffs” My toughest clients are the ones who are quietly miserable, yes, but have built a functional enough system of defenses around their misery that blowing it up for the sake of a better life feels too costly and non-urgent

@alt_basil I guess what I'm questioning is that healing = losing touch. In my experience it's possible to heal in a forward way, letting the thing transform and keeping it as something still precious, just different (not trying to invalidate, lmk if this is unwanted)
