I-81 south of Roanoke VA: first responders parked on bridges above the interstate: lines of fire trucks, ambulances. Anyone know what’s happening?

Yesterday was my last day of working at Google. Perhaps this comes as surprise to you twitter folks, as I haven't widely announced that I left academia to try something new. Here's what I learned in 9 months as a Data Analyst who (temporarily) left Astronomy for Big Tech. 1/n

@divyasiddarth @UsePolis I chose the place I knew less about, with more new opportunities, which left the other as a fallback if things didn't work out. Still in the DC area ten+ years later.

Created a poll about where I should live but forgot to ask for reasoning...now I just have numbers (amateur mistake)---this is the problem with voting-based democracy! What does it all mean! Should have used @UsePolis. + if you do have Bay Area vs. NYC thoughts please comment!

Why so much more focus on "ways of knowing" (epistemologies) than "ways of feeling" (?????-ologies)? e.g. fear can be felt as certainty or doubt; creativity or apathy; isolation or compassion... joy can be felt as certainty or doubt…

Yep. Maybe some of those reporters hanging around Manchin and Sinema could instead start asking Romney, Murkowski, Collins, Portman, etc. some tough questions about voting rights.

A perverse dynamic: Because total GOP opposition to protecting democracy is a foregone conclusion, it becomes accepted as a backstop condition of our politics. So it faces less scrutiny. The story then becomes that *only* Dem infighting caused inaction: washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/…
