bro why are DoorDash drivers always on the phone 😭 you walk into any place that does takeout and there's always like five of them taking conversations on speaker just loitering
with how often this has happened to me, I'm assuming this is a pretty universal experience for cyclists and runners visiting a new town/city. there are already options to exclude surface types/highways, etc - so why not add one for bike paths too? I'd certainly be appreciative 😂
case in point - was in my hometown recently and brought my bike. cooked up a route in the route builder, mostly let it do its thing... and found myself missing a beautiful stretch of road I really wanted to ride because strava had routed me onto a new bike path.
@Cicirunner I have to make time for it!! up at 5:45 every day to get a couple hours in before work, squeeze in a little extra after work most days, and put in a big day at least one weekend day. Doesn't just fall into your lap, you gotta make it happen.
I cycle about 150-200mi/wk. I coach HS XC and run 30-40mi/wk. I go to the gym 2-3x/wk and do a crossfit style workout. all said and done it's 15+hr/wk of exercise. my coworkers are mystified by this. "what are you training for?" they always ask (thread)
@JNeilPhD My body definitely doesn't hold up as well as it used to - if I try to run under about 5:20 pace I'm in a lot of pain the next day (nerve damage). It's all about moderation and being proactive. started cycling to offset what I was losing in running, and I do a lot of PT exercises
@CEdwards1701 couldn't have said it better myself! it doesn't bother me when people ask, but I do think it's funny that the general mindset seems to be that one needs to have a specific goal to pursue in order to develop fitness.
@bryanegallagher I hate when people ask what you're training for. Training for life. Having a routine is good for you mentally, and so is being disciplined.
@benellison50162 I could quote you all kinds of research about correlation between increased cardiovascular and musculoskeletal fitness and longer life, but for me it boils down to not wanting my body to be a limit on the life I choose to lead. generic, perhaps, but enough for me 🤷🏻♂️
@benellison50162 I want my life to be defined by the activities I *can* do rather than the ones I wasn't in shape for. sure, I'm an outlier - I recognize that - but anyone can develop this mindset. it's a daily choice to push my limits - does there really need to be more than that?
@niko_schr not always - lots of days I wake up and don't want to ride/run/lift etc. the hardest part for me a lot of the time is just getting out the door. once I'm moving I know the outcome is worth the effort but it can be hard to remember that at all times!
@bryanegallagher You train because you enjoy the process.
Most often hard to understand for people who don’t, but at the end of the day its no different to practicing playing the piano or baking fancy cakes.
this seems to be a concept that doesn't resonate with many people, but to me it's no different than saving for retirement. I'm putting in the miles to build a bank I can draw on for the rest of my life. and I hope I never have to stop. #hybridathlete#coaching#fitness#fitspo
I'm training so I'll be able to tackle anything that comes my way. I'm training for my physical and mental well-being. I'm training so that the kids I may or may not ever have will have a dad who can keep up with them. I'm just training for... life. and whatever it might bring.
