I don’t think the average fan realizes how much easier it is to play in the infield today in the @MLB than it was 20, 30 or 40 years ago. The fields are significantly better than before. There are fewer ground balls being hit. You can’t break up a double play. And maybe the biggest difference is that teams don’t have speed guys at the top or bottom of their lineups that put pressure on the infielders. I will never forget the pressure I felt as an infielder playing against the Cleveland Indians in the late 90’s. With Lofton, Vizquel and Alomar hitting 1,2 & 3 it was a nightmare because all 3 could hit, bunt and run.
