@andrewdunx @pc602 Agree completely, I’m not sure how DBCA managed the fire in its infancy but I could hazard a guess there’s mixed opinions on it

@btparkin @pc602 It’s a natural fire ( lightning ) - and fire is a part of and has shaped the Aus landscape forever ! - However there is no excuse for fire escaping/ impacting private property 👀🤷👎

At 98,000 ha the Fitzgerald fire is quite the size.

@andrewdunx @pc602 Deserves to be better managed for sure, not only for the biodiversity value but the value in tourism it brings into the shire, 200 000ha of Luna landscape doesn’t appeal to many.

@btparkin @pc602 and when the whole park burns it matures and has a burnable fuel load ~ 10/15 years -scope for whole park to burn again . Worth referring to 8’ post fire recommendations- cells/staggered burning , good perimeter breaks . DBCA too focused on SW Forests! Local knowledge ignored 👎

@pc602 It’s a large % of total park burnt now. I imagine it would’ve been a pretty hot fast burn yesterday morning and the night before.

@btparkin Rog. This map was at 5.30 last night and I'm guessing it was the current burn activity at that time.

@melrose6405 Let them do any degree they like (ag or otherwise) & if time allows, encourage them to backpack/work overseas for 12 months, then work in a successful commercial business in thier field of expertise for 3-5yrs before returning home - they’ll be a better person & farmer for it

Which uni course provides the best skill set for coming home to the farm for a family sibling that wants to go down the tertiary line? UWA Ag Science or Curtin Agribusiness or Marcus Oldham Geelong or something else?

@melrose6405 Really depends on what thier passion/interest is - no point studying something they aren’t really interested in. UWA certainly was a good degree if they want to get into R&D/Agronomy role for a few years before returning to farm. Marcus more practical farm business management

We’ve received a few requests for wild radish resistance testing (apparently it’s everywhere this year in the NAR - worse in years at the back of 24 and 25 absence of knock-down?). Anyway we will test for resistance in radish covering all key groups and actives + tank mixes. 👇

He found it in April down the “tip”. Has spent many many hours after school on it. Been a big push over the last week to have it ready for our show this weekend, plus an 11th birthday a week ago. Well done Gaz.

Despite a bitterly cold & wet day, it’s great when every link in the chain comes together to solve problems - Global R&D, local agronomists and farmers, tackling the challenge of powdery mildew. Many thanks to host grower @nig_michael for the impromptu creature comfort

2025 season on the south east coast of WA very conducive to powdery mildew. Calibre wheat still a long way from grain fill with solid infection. Good season to assess new fungicide options for growers to manage PM infection

@Tedthekelpie Roger, have Agro’s report previously that when mouldy seed has been observed there was a difference between treated and untreated

Has anyone ever had wheat seed go mouldy underground? What causes it? Just goldilocks zone of marginal moisture and warm soil?
