The economy is very good for entry-level workers! And young workers don’t have much direct experience of other economic conditions, anyway. The thing that tells them “this is better/worse than before” is primarily received narratives.

A perfect illustration of my point! People’s views of the economy are being shaped by received narratives about some bygone age of universal prosperity. Those narratives are often incomplete or just plain wrong, but they’ve been absorbed in meme-like fashion. It’s just this:

I’ve honestly come all the way around on this guy because the meta-character he plays in these is a pretty funny caricature of a certain type of guy. Even, or especially, if it’s unintentional. Put these in the time capsule for when they ask what ‘millennial culture’ was.

This wonderful scene depicts Rutland's yard and terminal in its home city of Rutland, Vermont looking north. The date is not listed but likely taken during the late 1940s or early 1950s.
