Saying Samson was defeated by lust is a lazy, historically inaccurate reading of his life. Samson was not a sexual predator or a man chasing endless vices. He was a lonely hero who desperately wanted to love and be loved, and his ultimate vulnerability was misplaced trust. The Bible explicitly states that Samson loved Delilah (Judges 16:4). This wasn't a fleeting physical encounter. He brought her into his inner sanctum, gave her his heart, and treated her as a lifelong partner. He failed because he SIMPED for Delilah. To see the difference between lust and Samson's flaw, we only need to look at King David. David stood on a rooftop, watched a married woman bathing, demanded she be brought to him, and then murdered her husband to cover up his indulgence. That is the literal definition of destructive, unchecked lust. Yet, David was not 'defeated' or permanently stripped of his calling. If the raw mechanism of lust was what destroyed judges and kings, David would have fallen completely. Samson fell because his heart was too open to the wrong person.
