I hugely respect Wikipedia for spending the past two decades trying to prove my high school teachers who decried it as unreliable wrong. These days, I actually point students doing research towards Wikipedia as a valuable starting point, specifically for the endnotes.

@birdmoder People do this with gar fish too. Anglers in my area will catch gar in mass and throw them on the bank to die, thinking they are some kind of nuisance species. It’s really gross. They are ancient native fish that have been here since forever. I hate how some people treat nature
