If your parents hit you as a kid, the most important thing you can do is forgive them and break the chain with your own kids. This is actually much easier than it seems since you can simply choose to do things. But it involves recognizing that the initial physical violation pales in comparison to the deeper psychic betrayal, which is the realization that your authority figures are weak, indulgent, out of control and therefore unfit to govern you. Not they betrayed you, but they betrayed themselves. In principle, this is a good realization to have and most basically intelligent people come to it at one point or another. The problem with having it forced on you at a young age is that it creates a permanent distance between you and your emotions. In other words, you can understand and even accept them, but you will never fully believe them. They will forever seem fake and gay. This makes it hard to be vulnerable or uninhibited, which are prerequisites of all love bonds. Immigrant parents, even the smart ones, don’t seem to realize that initiating their kids into reality while they’re still dependents is not wise but lazy and retarded.

@annakhachiyan The more extreme version of this is to try to do what Stefan Molyneux advocates, which is to not even yell at your kids or speak to them with anger. I know intellectually that he’s probably right, but it’s hard to live up to that ideal (sort of like eating meat). But I never hit.

Jesus doesn’t have to do or use anything in order for something to be true, plus Jesus was the superior being with divine power, for Him to use a relic, it wouldn’t make sense. The principle is in scripture in both the old and New Testament. It’s intellectually and theologically dishonest to require the standard you suggested. Jesus wasn’t operating in sola scriptora. Are you the type to worship the Bible as an eternal subject?
