The first way to evaluate a coach’s intelligence and character is by who they surround themselves with—and who they allow into their program. Staff, players, and parents alike.

I’m not sure this actually relates to NBA but I think there is something there. Lot of these young dudes have play 100s of games before college. They like to win…but they don’t hate to lose. Not their fault. We built a system where losses don’t last long enough to hurt.30 games a month will do that.Competition isn’t taught— it’s felt.

Man I can't do it. I tried. NBA season officially over for me. Dudes get eliminated and laugh and joke with the other team after the game. They just ended your season. Well, at least they got more time for Tik Toks.

1500 kids in the portal with no home. In other words 1500 young ladies badly advised and it in 90% of the cases … a AAU COACH OR TRAINER was doing the advising. The very people who never coached a day in college or been in a recruiting meeting

To every dad out there holding it down— Getting up at 4am to just try to stay on task… Trying to stay in shape… Staying on budget… Planning meals, cooking meals… Coaching other people’s kids… While trying to develop be present and raise your own kids… Pouring into a marriage… Pouring into your faith… And still showing up for them every day— That’s not easy. That’s not normal. That’s rare. You’re a superhero. And not all superheroes wear capes.

For most players, the sum of your habits becomes who you’re forced to become. You can’t cheat your diet. You can’t skip the weight room. You can’t ignore film. You can’t fake a growth mindset. You can’t be a poor student. You can’t be a bad teammate. You can’t be uncoachable. You can’t finish last in conditioning. You can’t miss workouts—even the “optional” ones. If you’re not in that 1%—elite size, speed, length—then separation isn’t optional… it’s everything. And separation doesn’t come from just “getting in the gym.” It comes from being intentional. It comes from stacking the small things. It comes from doing what others won’t—consistently.

Observations watching the 12U tourney my son is in: -VERY chaotic! Teams just press all game which leads to TO’s, layups and/or bad quick shots -if no press, they play zone -Absolutely no offense or teaching -no understanding of team defense -lots of yelling and “do him!” 🤦🏾‍♂️

One of the ugliest parts of recruiting I’ve seen up close—once an unspoken practice at the college level—has now trickled down to high school. Coaches bringing kids in not to build them, but to keep them off someone else’s roster.

@ExclusiveHoops Many don’t know how to truly evaluate or develop. Rely on unqualified recruiting services and rinse/repeat mindset. That’s why there are so many that don’t have any type of consistent success(winning record/finishing top half of conference etc.)

College coaches, this is a genuine question. Do you prioritize talent or age? Age doesn’t necessarily equate to better. There are many players in the transfer portal who lack the necessary skills and experience. The evaluation of HS players has been compromised for the assumption of quick fixes in the transfer portal.

You can demand respect all you want… but if coaches and parents aren’t professional, don’t expect players to be. They don’t follow instructions. They follow examples.

Drove by a park the other day and saw about 20 kids hooping on the blacktop with chain nets & no adults in sight — a beautiful sight to see
