@James_M_South We're just slaving away writing boring corporate line of business apps. Sometimes even in old tech, because we have .NET framework projects running for like 20 years and still maintain them.
And we cry a little when library maintainers drop .NET framework support.
The #dotnet community really is dead, isn't it? I share something absolutely mindblowingly awesome and its tumbleweeds. An equivalent in JavaScript garners thousands of shares and likes.
@GigaBasedDad Mike Tyson in his prime was really scary. He would wreck all of them.
Chuck Norris and Van Damme have won real Karate tournaments.
I still don't know what to think about Bruce Lee.
I bought a MacBook Pro M3 Pro and an ASUS TUF in 2024.
Now the MacBook still gives 5–6 hours battery easily.
The ASUS TUF barely survives 1 hour and lives on the charger. The fan sounds like a jet engine, and the WiFi is so broken I had to use an external adapter… thanks to those lovely forced Windows updates.
Windows laptops start with good battery, but forced updates seem to make things worse over time, they just slowly fall apart update by update.
@loftwah It has paid my bills for more than 20 years and the situation in Europe is probably a bit better than in the US.
I never earned a crazy 100k+ salary. So there's less of a incentive to out source and get rid of us.
It's just a normal job where I live.
Do you feel like you wasted a lot of time and effort learning software and tech? It doesn't seem like this is gonna last for a lot of us for much longer.
UNIX was built in one month.
Ken Thompson's wife took their son on vacation. He had 3 weeks alone.
He wrote the kernel in week 1, the shell in week 2, the editor in week 3.
Modern dev teams spend 3 weeks in sprint planning.
@ClintRutkas Stop forcing Visual Studio 2026 updates. "Will update on close" gets on my nerves 😅
And I'm stupid enough to use 3 different Windows machines, with Visual Studio en SQL Management Studio.
There are days I feel like I'm only updating my systems instead of working...
Microsoft spent 4 years stuffing Windows 11 with unwanted ads, forced Copilot integrations, and other bloatware, now they want applause for promising to remove it 😂 I guess Microslop & SlopOS social media shaming campaign is working out
@loftwah I don't get the negativity. I got lots of work as a software developer. My work is changing though and I find myself analyzing requirements and business processes more often than just coding.
AI tools might require me to shift towards more of a consulting role. But I'll manage.
@anonemeese303@shanselman I have even considered running Windows Server as my main OS 🤣 But power management would be worse and some drivers won't work.
@anonemeese303@shanselman Windows is fixable, if Microsoft really wants to. I'm always amazed how quickly you can install and run Windows Server with desktop experience.
Why does setting up Windows 11 take so much longer?
@ibuildthecloud@shanselman Why would a diehard Linux user want to migrate to Windows?
I have often tried to migrate away from Windows to Linux. But I need my computer to just work, it's a tool not a toy... so I'm still running Windows 11.
Buying a Mac is the only other option.
I'm a die hard linux user, and over 2 years I worked hard to migrate to windows. And there are so many great things about it. But I got so sick of declining office365 (and I pay for office365) and click dialogs that say, "Use bing as your default search engine." And then give you an option of "Yes" or "Later." How scummy is that. Apple has stopped caring about their user, maybe this is an opportunity for y'all to honestly care about the windows user. The Windows Home user. I challenge you to install Windows Home and use the default configuration. Do not personalize anything and so how much you love using your computer. You need to force @satyanadella to use default configuration of windows home on his computer and experience the neglect that his customers get daily. x.com/ibuildthecloud…
