Bitcoin ETFs solved convenience. They didn’t solve ownership. When you buy a spot ETF, you own shares. The trust owns the Bitcoin. The custodian holds the keys. In traditional finance, that distinction feels abstract. In Bitcoin, it’s everything. Ownership = keys. Authority = ability to move it. ETFs give exposure. Self-custody gives control. In calm markets, they feel the same. When markets close and Bitcoin keeps moving… the custody agreement decides who can act. That’s not a portfolio detail. It’s a power structure.
