I think the Chiefs are signaling they are in the midst of a multi-year rebuild with this draft by heavily investing in the defense early in the draft this year.

Thoughts: I like both players we drafted. They don’t fill our biggest needs, which was a little disappointing as a fan last night, but truly great teams rarely draft purely off of need. And based on Veach’s comments, it was clear they intended to draft one of Tate, Reese, or Delane with their first pick. Delane will be a DROY candidate and Woods will immediately have a key role and start games; they spoke unusually high of him last night. The DT position is now as good as I can remember and I’m more than comfortable with the CB position. We still have needs at WR and DE of course, I suspect at least one of those needs will be filled today as there is a nice pool of players at both positions here in the second round. There are also a handful of quality players at both WR and DE on the FA/trade market that could heat up after the draft. That said, here’s my official day 2/3 mock.
