If we are changing the standards to get teachers in the classroom because of the massive shortages, then the there is NO reason we can't do away with the draconian teacher evaluations.
@DrBradJohnson I had a principle that would always leave a positive note as he left. He was one of the best even when we disagreed! He got it...he knew how much went into all that happened in our classrooms. He didn't just look at what he saw in the moment...he knew it was so much more!
Teachers love notes and drawings from students. But they also love them from colleagues and administrators. Have post it notes handy to leave a note of encouragement, appreciation, or praise. You will make someone's day!
Teachers don't leave because it's hard. Teachers are some of the hardest working professionals I know. They leave because the expectations become more unrealistic every year.
There are 3 expectations that set the professional tone for your school culture:
1) Be your Best, whatever your role, do your best
2) No Surprises. If something is wrong, I want to hear it from you, not the grapevine.
3) We support each other. We are a team, not competitors
Well everyone,
Today is my last day as a teacher.
I am leaving education for a new and less stressful opportunity.
Time to focus on me and my family instead of the constant chaos.
I'll miss my students, my coworkers, and the community.

I’ve been teaching for 23 years, and I have NEVER had so many 8th graders be as vicious and nasty to each other as the ones who populate my room every day. Can’t we just send them on to the high school and be done with them for the year? 🤦🏻♀️
@DrBradJohnson I called for help last week. Felt awful for doing it. But I needed a minute. Our counselor came to relieve me. She said I was brave for stepping up! I needed to see this!!
@JustinAion I teach better in my classroom. I think it helps the students to see the teacher in the environment. It is hard enough for my students to be sitting at home, so seeing the classroom behind me may help put them in the right frame of mind. We can leave during lunch in my district
@DrBradJohnson I have been told by 3 principals I should be an administrator...no way!! I feel my strength is being with kids in the classroom...I use to be down on myself because that was "all" I wanted. But what is wrong with being happy with what you achieved.
Just because some teachers would rather stay in the classroom than go into administration doesn’t mean they aren’t leaders. Many have amazing talents & ideas which can benefit a school by placing them in situations to use those talents. Embrace them and their talents!

Admin, when you observe a teacher, especially informally, don’t feel you have to critique EVERY time. Too often teachers are told, "you did great BUT", instead, " Leave the BUTS behind”. Let them know what they did well & move on. Leave them feeling validated & appreciated!
While on the topic, Physical Education is not recess or free time. It is an academic subject, just like music, band, Arts, etc. And for some, these are the most important subjects.
Teachers, it’s important to leave your worries at classroom door as much as possible to give students your best. It’s also important to leave school worries at door when you get home to give family & friends your best. I guess really it’s best to leave your worries in the car!😀
Team concepts that are lacking in some schools:
1) Consistency: turnover of staff/admin destroys consistency.
2) Momentum: we jump from program to program.
never give time to build on successes.
3) Morale: support & encouraging each other.
4) Collaboration instead of competition
Please be mindful of sharing your Zoom screens. I know you are all excited about seeing your students - I’m excited for you!!! But student privacy is still a thing, y’all.
