[WATCH] THE NATURE OF THE ALLIANCE WITH THE SACP PART 1. The 2024 electoral outcomes were a strategic setback for the national democratic revolution, with our movement receiving 40% of the vote, the lowest in our democratic history. The ANC recognises this as an existential crisis, and we must either renew or perish. We therefore need to act with utmost urgency, determination and courage in making the renewal of the ANC more visible and irreversible. We can’t achieve this alone, we have to do it with the alliance, the ANC cannot be opposed to a progressive front but we must be cautious of the risks that are entailed in that decision. When the SACP wants to contest elections because of their ideological disposition we cannot say no to that, we can only advise. And they have taken a decision on the matter. Time will tell whether that decision will make us stronger or weaken us. Reconfiguration was dealing with the defects of the alliance but the alliance is unbreakable. The NDR is the glue that brings us together. We co-exist. One being the vanguard of the working class and the other being a broad church, in simple terms a multi-class organisation, the indestructible ANC. Only in South Africa has it occurred where a nationalist liberation movement allied with a communist party. Nowhere in the world has this happened successfully only here. The party is now defining its own agenda and we have consider how we going to relate to that. Communists cannot afford to leave the ANC, the ANC has always been a contested terrain. If you are leaving, you are leaving it to who?
