We were not taught that Muslims/Arabs also enslaved Africa. And, they enslaved them for much longer.
The truth is, Islam (still) allows slavery.

Arabic is by far the most common language in Africa. Over 200 million people speak it as their first language.
And how did Arabic become the most spoken language in Africa? Colonialism and slavery!
No one colonized Africa and enslaved more Africans than the Arab Muslims did.
Yet, for some reason, we’re only taught about European colonialism.
