@GmanPoker Garrett, it’s incredible to see such a candid thought process. Most viewers put you and Andy in the same tier but it’s not saying much given the skill level of the other LA regs (HCL).You were lightyears ahead of Andy and he was ahead of the rest. 2 winners but not created equal

@BarstoolNate If the “retail traders” you mentioned had half a brain, they would think for themselves? If anything, this helps make markets more efficient which is important for the economy

Phil likely made a shit ton, like a SHIT TON off insider trading SPACs with the scammer, an adult he calls his “bestie”, Chamath. His act is no longer “endearing” and we need to stop pretending he’s anything but an asshole.

@MrJesseJames4 Fans want to know how much players win. Engaged fans are essential to monetizing poker. I understand we aren’t there yet but if you want to play the long game, it’s a reasonable risk which can change the old school perception of poker

@bwinthrop11 Poker and professional spots are nothing alike (from an economic perspective, etc) so comparing “legitimacy” doesn’t make sense. If you want to create a poker league where players are paid salaries + all stats are widely published and scrutinized, by all means go for it!

@MrJesseJames4 Jesse, this is the logic that makes it difficult for Poker to reach the same legitimacy as sports. If we normalized golfers obfuscating their handicap details, it would be disastrous. I understand athletes in Sports get paid but transparency is a stepping stone to getting there

Their long term loss rate is worth it for the entertainment + good feelings they get from this feedback loop. The high roller economy stays healthy.

@edoweb3 @Polymarket $1.5mm is chump change for the big dogs especially in a market with liq as high as the world cup— possibly a hedge, or just a small gamble for a big player

okay I'm kinda scared from this @Polymarket account he made $1.5M in realized profits, in just 9 days. All World Cup bets, 100% WIN RATE he made such weird bets, including the Germany loss of yesterday ($767k in profits) the next prediction he's accumulating is: "Argentina vs Cabo Verde" - Argentina NO at 15¢ at this point I won't be surprised to see a draw or win from Cabo Verde in 3 days insider???

@themouthmatusow Mike, fair point but its not fair of you to use the R word. People police the use of this word to protect people who genuinely fit the description- your usage of this word completely disparages that effort.

@lonmceachern This is a very important point— language barrier is one of the leading causes of WSOP errors. Players and dealers who are not comfortable speaking and enunciating in American English need additional training. It is disappointing to see you ignore this to advance political agenda

"...all foreign dealers..."????
Todd Witteles@ToddWitteles

@BobbyJamesPoker @WSOP One solution is to make a rule that it’s an instant firing if a joker or other non playing card appears during play. Make sure all foreign dealers understand and sign to this.

@BoardroomWire @Graffitinights1 Missed the mid 20s part- definitely respectable with high earning but not wealthy yet type of folks. Starting salaries for high achievers in IB, Finance, etc should be ~200K ballpark with trajectory to 500K by 30

@bwinthrop11 @Graffitinights1 I don’t think that’s a joke for someone in their mid 20’s. It’s not a lavish lifestyle but it’s respectable. And you don’t need a 4-5k apartment by any means .

I see a lotta people on the timeline freaking out about the JPM DEI woman getting paid $300K, about that girl at stripe getting $300K, and now the below. A lot of you have no idea how much inflation there’s been over the past few years, especially in the NYC area. I’d say new pay scale in Manhattan is something like this- Entry level- $250k, if you’re in your mid 20s at a good firm you need to be clearing this Middle management- $500K to $1MM, this is basically middle class now Doing well- $3MM plus If you’re surprised by the White Party offer, you’re not seeing what’s going on
Exec Sum@exec_sum

BREAKING: A Zero Bond member offered $2 million to get an invite to Michael Rubin’s July 4th White Party and was denied.

@Graffitinights1 I get your point but this is mad exaggerated. The best of the best are clearing the numbers you’re saying but by no means is this standard. If you are in your mid 20’s and making $170+ in Manhattan you’re doing just fine and can live well

@WSOP @TexasMike2014 This behavior is obviously wildly +EV for other players and welcomed by a large segment of them. This behavior is also a turn off for a meaningful segment of the player base. Both of those things are true and both are in conflict with each other.

@InvestLikeBest How much of it is survivorship bias? It’s only fair to shine a light on this aspect of capitalism when the risk takers who have failed and lost everything are not swept under the rug

"Capitalism rewards risk more than anything else. A lot of people think it's meritocracy, or hard work, or skill... A lot of people think they're taking risks but aren't taking real risks... My definition of risk is that you genuinely don't know what's going to happen, so you're going to discover something new. And it needs to be coupled with a high potential for shame."
Patrick OShaughnessy@patrick_oshag

I've gotten a lot of texts saying they loved how Kareem defines courage and risk in this episode, so sharing it in full: "If you look at old republics, they would have statues for concepts like courage or integrity or justice, we’ve forgotten these abstract ideas matter when you’re building a company. Capitalism rewards risk more than anything else. A lot of people think it's meritocracy, or hard work. There are a lot of people working really hard and not making a lot of money. It doesn't just reward skill either. You can be eating a sword or juggling and not make as much as someone doing a YouTube video. A lot of people think they're taking risks but aren't taking real risks. I talked to one founder who went to a good school, then YC, and he was telling me about his company. He said, we serve sales and we serve recruiting. I said, you have to pick one. That's where you actually provide value, in committing yourself to serving some group of people in some specific way. My definition of risk is that you genuinely don't know what's going to happen, so you're going to discover something new. And it needs to be coupled with a high potential for shame. That's when you're genuinely about to discover something new, and that's when you can take real risk. And to do that, you then need to have many traits. One of them is courage. When you couple risk and courage, the next part is commitment. You actually need to follow through to see what ends up happening. You can't just quit in the beginning. If we see somebody has star potential, we stay with it way longer than most."

@amit32883 @gtolab ROI is of course not calculated based on your bankroll? A winning player can easily have a $6mm bankroll and put in $10mm in buy ins in a given year

@amit32883 @gtolab Ok so if you have a $6.6 million bankroll with 100 BI (66K ABI) and you generate 10% ROI on $10M in buyins, its twice as much as investing $6.6MM in index funds?

Bankroll management is not just “how many buy-ins do I need?” It’s knowing whether you can take a shot, lose, and still make clean decisions after. Some players need strict rules. Some can handle more risk. What's your take on risk?
