@Lingling_Wei @dannyrrussel 2) Therefore, I doubt the summit will be cancelled (tho possibly postponed a bit). I could speculate that the delay in announcing it may be due to ongoing secret negotiations about the exact language new formulations Beijing wants.

Will the Beijing summit still take place? Beijing likely wants the summit for “Trump management” reasons and to keep the Busan “truce” alive, said ⁦@dannyrrussel⁩ “But Xi could choose to postpone if the next few days bring wider escalation.” wsj.com/livecoverage/i…

@Lingling_Wei @dannyrrussel Beijing now sees that Trump 1) is willing to abandon past agreements and precedents and 2) is willing to take risks. Therefore, I think Beijing sees this summit as its best shot in many years at getting the US to agree to new language, or even a new communique, on Taiwan. (1)

@martyweilwapost @chelsea_janes Marty, you were already at the very heart of the Post’s newsroom operations when I first arrived there well over a half century ago. I thought you’d be there forever and by any right you should have been. Be well…

@chelsea_janes We are not commenting on the goings on. So let these words not be imbued with hidden meaning. But if we were holding our seminar on the Odyssey, we would not at the student who said "Sometimes it is hard to discern the wishes of the gods and win their favor."

I, like so many people I respect and love, was laid off today. What an incredible honor it was to spend 12 years there. I am so grateful for everyone who read and encouraged and lived seasons with us. I am so sad the Post sports family won’t be there to live it with you again.

@NorthropKatrina Insane. Your coverage has been excellent. Your career will recover. The Post, my long-ago alma mater, will not.

I was laid off today from the Washington Post along with many, many talented colleagues. It’s been a joy and privilege to serve as China correspondent, and cover everything from the trade war to Taiwanese organized crime to robots. I hope to continue doing this work.

@BillKristol What were the final results of your poll on Cabinet members? Did Bondi come out on top or Hegseth?

A reminder why we need to change New York State law to allow state health officials to step into the shoes of the CDC and make vaccine recommendations, for as long as the CDC is under the thumb of the nation’s most notorious anti-vaxxer. nytimes.com/2025/11/20/hea…

Random thought: let’s give a name to our new political system. The old one, now being discarded, had a system of checks and balances. The new one should be called a system of ‘your checks, my balances.’

Looks like Trump is considering allowing exports of advanced semis to China. Nvidia argues that its chips won’t enable PRC military modernization. So @SamBresnick and I dug through hundreds of PLA procurement documents yesterday. We find evidence of the opposite. 🧵

@KariLake @OANN @ChanelRion This is a new low, blaming the war in Ukraine on Biden. The Russian invasion had nothing to do with it? Did Biden start the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, too?

The first impeachment hoax against President Trump was fueled, in part, by the media’s refusal to cover Biden’s corrupt business dealings in Ukraine. It led to this awful war: billions of dollars sent overseas to fuel a conflict costing hundreds of thousands of lives. The media still hasn’t admitted their role in it. There’s a reason they’re nearly as despised as Congress; Americans see journalists as more interested in tearing down this country than reporting the truth.

Is there anything on any network news show more ridiculous than CBS weather reports by @LonnieQuinnTV ? Whirling unreadable graphics, accompanied by fast-talking incomprehensible voiceovers. No one could possibly grasp or repeat back anything he said 15 seconds later.

I know from working w @RadioFreeAsia #Uyghur @GulchehraHoja that her own words are often the most evocative: “Being a voice for the voiceless requires a price, & standing up for justice against oppressors requires courage. We are proud to be journalists.” rsf.org/s/95129

@bizcreditfixer Yes I saw that. Doesn’t explain why our train time kept moving back while other southbound trains were allowed to go. Or why they thought our train would depart in 15 mins repeatedly over two hours.

@byjamesmann You’re literally on the internet. You didn’t see that a train hit someone along that line? Delays suck but don’t pretend not to know what happened.

Amtrak is so miserable!! We were supposed to leave NYC for DC two hours ago, are still waiting at Penn Station, and they are still providing NO information except to keep moving the departure back and no help on rebooking for other trains today except to say there are none.

@KariLake @DavidJHarrisJr @NEWSMAX 2) How’s a reporter in the field supposed to know what happened overnight, or in the capital? Ask an official of a repressive government?

@KariLake @DavidJHarrisJr @NEWSMAX I’m guessing that in her broadcast days, @KariLake or her producers made considerable use of the wire services, just as a starting point for original reporting, whether she knew it or not. Foreign correspondents do so even more. 1111

A tentative conclusion from reading Power Broker (1974) in conjunction with Abundance and Why Nothing Works (2025) American inability to build (esp. public projects) is a much deeper feature than the adversarial legalism and regulatory expansion of the 1970s, which the latter books finger. Before Moses arrived no new bridge had been built in NYC in a quarter century. No new arterial highway in fifteen years. The people cheered as he demagogued about cutting through “old hacks” and “red tape” bureaucrats back in the 1930s. The building bonanza of the 1930s and 40s seems the deviation. An inability to build more like the norm. Perhaps exceptional circumstances permit one or two major bursts and deviation from trend per century.
