@MatthewCappucci 1/x As a leader, I have to take responsibility for outcomes for which I am only tangentially responsible. That's as it should be. Same in meteorology. For that reason, I applaud this move, and deeply respect your humility. Many other mets have also shown humility.

What a HORRIBLE forecast by meteorologists – especially myself. Not only were we spectacularly wrong – we communicated poorly. It became apparent last night that some of our initial expectations would prove fallacious. I'd like to address what went wrong with our forecast:

@MatthewCappucci 3/x: to we correct for that in the future. Other than the night before, were there signs that this could whiff? If not, why not. If so, how do we learn to better recognize and communicate the uncertainty earlier. This is a learning experience for humans as well as machines.

@MatthewCappucci 2/x: The real issue here wasnt actually communication so much as bad outputs by the model suite. You communicated based on what the smartest models in human creation were telling you. The real question moving forward, is what factor(s) made the models consensus so wrong, and how

@SCweather_wx I say this with mad respect to all wx communicators and to the inherent unpredictability of the science... but who *should* they blame? Millions rearranged their lives today in some way today. This wasn't a comms miss; word got out. It's a science miss. We learn and move on.

No win scenario for people who do weather. A win scenario means life threatening weather which is obviously not a win. We don’t want that. If today doesn’t happen produce widespread severe weather, prepare to get throttled by the public. Starting early in the comment section.

Our late February sun is as strong as late October sun. In March, the sun strength is the same as September. April is August. And so it goes. This is why those early spring sunburns can be painful, and surprising.

Liam’s Weather (Student Meteorologist Liam Kenny)
It’s so hard to believe this time last week, the coastal Carolinas were getting covered in a half foot of snow. In order to get snow this far south, it takes such a unique atmospheric setup, with all of the correct pieces coming together perfectly. Literally, if one piece isn’t in the correct place, it could be the make or break between barely anything and a historic snowstorm. I took this video outside of the WPDE ABC 15 news station just before 9 PM. Temperatures were in the middle 20s with wind chills in the single digits. It was frigid out, but it was nothing short of a winter wonderland. Over the past decade or so, I had traveled to the state of Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts many times for see my family up there. There have been a few times where there was snow falling or already on the ground. However, it wasn’t anything big or crazy. This past weekend was my first legit snowstorm or big weather event I have ever covered from start to finish. I’ve probably rewatched this video at least 30 times over the past week or so because it is just so incredible to me. When people hear or think Myrtle Beach or South Carolina, the first thing that usually comes to mind is warm weather, with sunny skies, occasional thunderstorms and sometimes hurricanes. VERY rarely do you think of the landscapes getting covered in a coat of white with extremely cold temperatures. WHAT A WEEKEND! 🌨️⛄️❄️🙂😎 #snowstorm #snOMG #snow #winter2026 #weather #myrtlebeachsc #conwaysc

Here's my preliminary analysis for this weekend's snowstorm over North Carolina. This storm will be one for the record books in a lot of NC. Hopefully, I'll be able to find some time later this week to look at South Carolina. Thanks for all the reports everyone #ncwx

@NWSRaleigh You've just lost a super wx nerd who gave you legit and hard acquired data. Yes ive done the storm spotter webinars...,. Im not one of the "crazies" but never felt so unacknowledged. We are at 16" right now and i can't get wx folks to acknowledge. Over it.
