Gulf states have refrained for years from building real armies, fearing that these armies might turn against the kingdoms and ruling families.
Most Saudi and Gulf military spending in general goes toward bribing American arms companies in order to build pressure lobbies.
That’s why Gulf military spending is among the highest in the world, while their armies are practically nonexistent and worthless outside of their un-air-conditioned barracks.
Gulf states and their regimes possessed resources that would have allowed them to build strong armies capable of rivaling any power in the Middle East, but for political reasons they didn’t, and they believed that a network of financial interests in America would provide better protection than real national armies.
This shows that these kingdom states lack any sense of nationalism or genuine concern for their peoples, and the issue of national security for them doesn’t go beyond being a matter of the security and survival of the ruling regime.

دول الخليج امتنعت لسنوات عن بناء جيوش حقيقية خوفاً من أن تنقلب هذه الجيوش على الممالك والعائلات الحاكمة. أغلب الإنفاق العسكري السعودي والخليجي بشكل عام يذهب لرشوة شركات السلاح الأمريكية بهدف بناء لوبيات ضغط. لذلك يُعد الإنفاق العسكري الخليجي من الأعلى في العالم، بينما جيوشهم شبه معدومة فعلياً ولا قيمة لها خارج الحظائر غير المكيفة. كانت دول الخليج وأنظمتها تملك موارد تتيح بناء جيوش قوية قادرة على منافسة أي قوة في الشرق الأوسط، لكنها لأسباب سياسية لم تفعل، وظنت أن شبكة مصالح مالية في أمريكا ستوفر حماية أفضل من جيوش وطنية حقيقية. هذا يظهر أن هذه الدول الممالك تفتقر إلى أي حس وطني أو اهتمام حقيقي بشعوبها، ومسألة الأمن القومي بالنسبة إليها لا تعدو كونها مسألة أمن وبقاء النظام الحاكم.

NPR: the pilot of the American F-35 hit by an Iranian missile yesterday suffered shrapnel wounds but is in stable condition. F-35 made a “hard landing” and won’t be returning to service anytime soon.
