Will the Yanks admit at any point the pivotal role of Pakistan in helping them win Cold War? Perhaps, we should start the commentary there. Supported you in Afghanistan against the Soviets materially. And then were left to fend off the Talibs on our own. Then you jumped into bed with the Indians and undermined our strategic objectives at every step, making us unsafer. Two can call foul!

Too early to evaluate the deal (we really don't know what it is) but one thing I can talk about is Pakistan. War supporters and righties are extremely dismissive of the notion that the US needs allies or friends. Well, one of our oldest most problematic friends brokered this.

A friend is someone who doesn’t harm you… but, A true companion is the one who stands by you through both good times and bad. The relationship between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan reflects just that.
