We applied to schools but are on waiting lists and the council has also looked and told us no alternative place at the moment. We are being referred to the education welfare team.

Places often shake down over the summer as people move house, win appeals etc. The FAP says a place must be allocated within 20 days but I think you have to have been out of education for 4 weeks?

We are living in an alternate reality. @bphillipsonMP writing how terrible it is when kids don’t go to school having forced over 50 private schools to close. Thanks to her, OLA closed 2 days ago and hundreds of kids (half with SEND) have no school to attend in 3 weeks’ time.

@FEWeek I can’t see this happening. A lot of teachers are leaving FE to teach in schools if they can.

Three weeks in and I've broken my Autumn promise of no booze in the week. Sometimes working in schools can completely overwhelm you even if you've been there for years. Big wine and massive cuddles with my kids tonight.

@em49907 @RachelReevesMP If the parents take off their child then the council will have to find them a school place. They can’t force you to pay. My son is on a waiting list for in year transfer for the state since June. I will try for another school but at the end of the year he will be without a school

@RachelReevesMP I see councils are asking for proof that parents can’t afford school fees. What a nasty vindictive act to put vat on private schools. You really are the nasty party.

@LandRover disappointed by my JLR garage and Landrover. DPF rattling which is a known issue for this car. No welding as not approved and need a new unit. No gesture of goodwill knowing that many people had 70-80% of the cost paid by JLR. So many people affected!

@RogersHistory It’s hard to think this way when you put so much work in! When someone doesn’t do well, I feel like I didn’t do well. Even if everyone did well, I still think I could have done more. It’s weird.

@greyhoundadopt @HeatherPreston1 @Steven_Swinford Yes but some will not cope because of class size (especially as quite a few will have needs but not enough for EHCP). It will become a mental health issue/ school refuser which use lots of school resources.

BREAKING: Labour has announced that it will introduce 20% VAT on private school fees from 1st January, 2025 The fee will also apply to **pre-payment of fees**, which many private schools have offered parents as a potential way round the tax rises

@Laurence_in_EU How does that work? If private schools lose charitable status, and attract VAT - i.e. They are reduced to solely commercial enterprises - then they are less obliged to share their private facilities, not more.

@mr_coops @UKLabour I am putting back my son to state school and I am dropping my hours at work because I don’t need to. Less income tax and I am still better off.

@DamianHinds I have a letter from hertfordshire council admissions that "It is not possible to allocate xxxx at a junior school. As xxxx is currently in a school (private) a place will not be automatically offered" @RachelReevesMP

Taxing independent education is wrong-headed for multiple reasons; accelerating it, without giving adequate time to prepare, is reckless. This risks untold disruption — including for many state schools.  gov.uk/government/pub…

Private schools aren't just for the wealthy. My parents made huge sacrifices and took on extra work to send me to a local prep school. Labour’s VAT hike on school fees punishes hardworking parents.
