@VinciLostSignal CRTs needed to be replaced because the resources to make them were dwiddling. It isn't so much "forgetting" as it is moving on from something. There's always trade off. Now, the plants have been replaced. They ain't coming back.

So bascially CRTs do everything better than any modern OLED, but we stopped making them because we actually literally forgot how to make them?

@St1ka If media rots, it doesn't solve for future use. If media is hoarded, it is stockpiled by elites. Data needs to be protect and allowed to be perserved. I don't think all eggs in one basket is the best either. Should be a mix.

@crumbtopdonut @c_tryo @retrokatg M64 will end up better than 3D in the end. Why do you assume analogue's engineers are better than M64? Mod Retro launching M64 is also good for the 3D. It forces analogue to actually give a damn.

Allow me to add a counter argument and balance…. Get the Analogue 3D (rather than the Fisher-Price rival) Like the original n64, it may not have an eject button, but it is a beautifully designed FPGA recreation. 10/10

@crumbtopdonut @Retro__Machine @retrokatg It'll be better. Whether it outsells. Probably not. It's going to be open source and allow for other cores besides just the N64. The FPGA in it is quite powerful.

@c_tryo @Retro__Machine @retrokatg I’m sure it will be a fine alternative, but it’s not outclassing or outselling the Analogue 3D. That’s all I'm trying to say. The product simply isn’t as good.

@Retro__Machine @retrokatg Not likely. Analogue has been doing this for a while. And with the new scaling options they just dropped, I don’t see how it’s even possible for the M64 to gain any market share while being unable to deliver those features with the same quality.
