We predict that landlords may pass secret broker fees onto tenants via rent hikes. Organized tenants know that our primary defense is rent-stabilization, which protects ~50% NYC tenants... We must protect & expand RS to ALL tenants, so NO ONE is hit with secret broker fees.

Organized real estate took a major hit today—their primary lobbying arm, Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY), has lost the broker fee battle. FARE ACT will protect tenants from being unfairly squeezed by landlords. But already, we see opposition from REBNY & Eric Adams.

Our leaders spoke about the need to expand the fight for rent-stabilization. These experiences of displacement, rent hikes, and landlord harassment will exacerbate as real estate lobbies like REBNY, CHIP, and RSA continue their attacks on rent-stabilization.
