how it feels leaving the hotel for a cup of coffee on your first morning on vacation

On my way to do exactly what I want after asking 20 people for their opinion

@BreeNewsome I see a pattern in billionaire rappers/producers (Hov, Pharrell, Ye, Swizz etc) thinking that they’re all these brilliant philosophers. They seem to have an inflated sense of intelligence and acuity just bc they were once extremely good at something at the right time.
English

It’s so clear Jay-Z wants to be positioned as a Miles Davis, Basquiat-like Black genius figure but… 😬
The catalogue & legacy just don’t rise to that level if we’re honest
His legacy is more about being a businessman than an artist & his ability to earn money beyond rapping
As far as cultural impact, there’s just not the same longevity there & that’s reflected in the discussion happening now
Outside of this orchestrated press tour, who was thinking of it being 30 years since Reasonable Doubt or how it relates to 2026? Who felt like it’s been a long time since we’ve seen or heard from Jay-Z?
That’s why it’s out of sync with the times & the vibes right now

@drearetas He’s older now and a billionaire capitalist so of course a lot of the optimism is gone. He’s not in the pursuit of happiness anymore. Idealism is what made him think “what could be” if he got out the projects but now he’s saying it’s pointless to dream?
English

@drearetas I don’t agree with the sentiment. It’s a short quote so I would love to read the rest. I’m a realist to a certain extent and it’s necessary to learn to operate within the world as it is, but imagination, optimism, and idealism are very necessary.

@specsaregood @Rafa_Mangual Everyone isn’t traveling for rollercoasters. I’m a visual artist so Chicago speaks to me through public art, community spaces, museums, architecture, infrastructure, and just an overall chill while still being metropolis.
English

@caffadeus @Rafa_Mangual yeah i can see architecture being a reason if you are into that. but, I dont know why a tourist would want to go to a city for an "urban planning perspective" but maybe those people exist.
English

Hang on… Chicago wants to attract more tourists. It has created a marketing campaign to do that; and, in order to fund it, the city is… making it more expensive to stay in Chicago by raising taxes on hotel rooms? Do I have that right?

@iky_fwjett Imagine paying a fortune to be painted and some artist includes your blemishes

@nerd_cookies Maternity aside, old toads can’t accept the fact that DV updated the role and decided to make a caring, intelligent, peace keeping character a woman, which is more realistic and not at all feminist shoe-horning.
English

Realizing you’re uninformed is the first step, so you’re on the right track. Chicago architecturally inspired the so called myriad of other choices you speak of. From an urban planning perspective Chicago consistently tops the list of best designed cities in the US. Also, hello, Dark Knight?
English

@Rafa_Mangual Maybe I'm just uninformed, but why exactly would anybody want to visit Chicago as a tourist? What attractions are so significant that it would draw somebody to Chicago vs the myriad of other choices?

@_Scary_Mary @EVA24011 Just now tried this and you might’ve just saved my life

2 things Ive found that helps.
1. Sleep to the side but on your shoulderblade rather than shoulder, it feels like side sleeping but really comfy. (Its a lesser side sleep but you still feel like you are side sleeping)
2. Fully side sleep but put a small flattish pillow under your ribs, level with the boobage, this gives a strange but amazing support to the thoracic region and also gives a little extra room for the shoulder.
