@caityweaver it kinda depends person to person, some are like “whatever i’ll adjust on my end to not use pennies” and others are up in arms and furious we can’t give anymore out, but we told them we are STRAIGHT UP OUT of pennies

i work at a bank and we went like: they’re phasing out pennies try to ration but still give normal quantities (moreso for businesses) penny deliveries are gonna be infrequent REALLY ration them we’re outta rolled pennies and aren’t getting anymore in the span of 4 days

@homixidejiro Really wild how fast it’s happening. Some of the stores near me are restricting cash payments to a single staffed register, because they don’t have enough pennies to stock the self-checkout kiosks anymore. Been like that for weeks. (And also half the self-checkouts are shutdown.)

Thank you to those who have pointed out that pennies are worth very little. I’ll look into it.

@charlescwcooke @caityweaver I think what she’s saying is that by discontinuing the penny, it has forced obsolescence yet the penny is still in circulation with a value. Things aren’t rounded in the wild yet there are no new pennies to pay cash for these unrounded amounts.

The tweets and the article hint vaguely at the chaos that will be caused by not minting pennies while also describing how useless and unused pennies already are and never getting around to describing the chaos (ftr I am a penny fan and hope they are reminted soon)
