Are pan-fried potatoes a thing in Western Europe and the Americas? As an Eastern European, it’s a staple, and probably the favourite food for most children. In the UK, neither of my Western flatmates appreciated it and used the oven instead, which was a cultural blow to me.

@calat_jf @JuanMarcos46507 @rafetavlc Que curioso comentario.

A woman wearing a traditional Portuguese folk costume from Viana do Castelo... The attire shown is known as a traje de festa, specifically originating from the Minho region of Portugal. The costume includes ornate handmade gold jewelry, such as the coração de Viana (heart of Viana) often worn by women in this region. These traditional dresses are typically worn during cultural festivals and celebrations, such as the Festival de Folclore Internacional Alto Minho. © Reddit #drthehistories

@vndkshn @archer_rs Why do you drive BMWs and Porsches instead of Chevrolets if European cars don't have "Great quality!"

@calat_jf @archer_rs Who said it was my first time? I literally learned to drive on a manual trans car. I currently own 5 cars with manuals. I'm a racing instructor for BMWCCA and Porsche Club. BTW, how do you think I said it was likely a bad master cylinder? I've replaced them before.

Europeans are not "blocking" US supersized pick up trucks, they are for sale here. We do not buy them because of three reasons. 1 - They are poorly made 2 - They are unreliable 3 - They are stupid ft.com/content/3eb796…

@vndkshn @archer_rs It could also be that it was the first time you drove a manual car, you didn't know where the clutch was, and what was stuck was your shoe to a chewing gum.

@archer_rs True story: in 2024 my wife and I went to Portugal for vacation. Rented a car, turned out to be a brand new VW, we were first renters. Had to return it the next day because the clutch pedal would stick to the floor (bad clutch master cylinder is my guess). "Great quality!"

@MykhailoRohoza A promising, intelligent leader? He chose to fight a Russia he could not defeat, as so many who should have defended their country fled. For 3 years he babbles on about fighting until victory, while his men fall by attrition. He put pride and ambition ahead of his people’s lives.

Kissinger said to President Zelensky during the full-scale invasion: “You have destroyed a myth that existed for 200 years.” That was then. But why is America silent now? In Prague, there are large-scale protests against pro-Russian leaders; even in Slovakia and Hungary, similar demonstrations take place from time to time. And yet the most powerful country — once a model of democracy — remains silent. What is this? Was there an artificial myth about the best and richest country in the world? It was you who elected him. It was because of you that a young, promising, intelligent, and pro-Ukrainian candidate, Nikki Haley, was forced to withdraw from the race. Why was a relatively small Ukraine able to elect a young, intelligent, and unbreakable president admired around the world, while you keep being drawn to aging politicians with dementia? What’s wrong with you, USA? Wake up. Otherwise, disaster will come not only for you, but for the entire world. Spanish shame…

@rankaplak @theepicmap Okay, I get it. The fact that Russian generals were useless and sent their soldiers to fight regardless of the lives lost, sometimes without weapons but fueled by vodka, gives them the right to conquer territory. Like now in Ukraine.

That territory is called Kaliningrad. It used to be the German city of Königsberg, but after World War II it became part of the Soviet Union — and today it belongs to Russia. Why? Because the Soviet Union defeated Nazi Germany together with the Allies. The Soviet Union paid the highest price in that victory: around 27 million people died, entire cities were destroyed, and the Red Army carried the main ground war against Nazi Germany on the Eastern Front. After the war, at the Potsdam Conference, the Allies (USA, UK, and USSR) agreed to transfer northern East Prussia, including Königsberg, to the Soviet Union. So Russia does not “own a part of Germany” randomly — that territory was reassigned after the defeat of Nazi Germany as part of the post-war settlement. History matters.

That's eye-opening, change in real wages from 1994 to 2024 (%). Just look at Italy and Spain, three lost decades. What were politicians thinking when they introduced the euro there? Why can’t they admit it was a mistake?
