Another ludicrous misuse of academic resources: bureaucratically-curated "dialogues across differences."  Colleges should be cramming knowledge into their students' empty brains, not overseeing politically correct conversations about the ephemera of the moment. I discussed the betrayal of the universities and Trump’s halting efforts to reform them with Northwestern’s Young Americans for Freedom Chapter last week. Thank you to @calebnunes13 and @YAF at Northwestern for hosting me.

@nmosvick @JohnOSullivanNR Absolutely. I have read the one you mention as well. In fact, I recall sharing it to a professor of mine who needed convincing 🤣 Being a student has its perks— NR keeps their archives copyrighted and it is near impossible to read anything published before 2000.

@CalebNunes13 @JohnOSullivanNR A testament to O'Sullivan's importance and prognostics, as I was in fact referring to his November 1994 essay, "America's Identity Crisis." (No link) He had Buckley's sign-on, but it was controversial enough on the Right to get a response from Neuhaus in First Things.

Thank you! The essay I ref is here: nationalreview.com/2008/01/after-… This was (ironically) first delivered by @JohnOSullivanNR at AEI in a lecture titled “A Principality in Utopia.” Trump’s rise was facilitated by the trends Mr. O’Sullivan observed almost 30 years ago. How prescient!
Dr. Nicholas Mosvick@nmosvick

Very impressed by @CalebNunes13's essay here for @ChroniclesMag and appreciate his discussion about @JohnOSullivanNR in his time as NR editor. Mr. Nunes is correct that O'Sullivan wrote a key essay in 1994 on the immigration problem which also rejected the creedal nation idea.

The Regime’s Enemies: Old and New Laura Field‘s ‘Furious Minds’ explains more about the left’s hatred of the New Right than the paleoconservative ideas undergirding that movement. Caleb Nunes (@CalebNunes13) writes for the May issue of Chronicles: chroniclesmagazine.org/reviews/the-re…

That Patrick Deneen’s chosen biography highlights that he has been recommended by Barak Obama tells you everything you need to know. Paul Gottfried reviewed Deneen’s book and had more critical thoughts than Obama. independent.org/tir/2018-summe…

A big day for me. The final copy of my forthcoming book,“American Odyssey,” was transmitted to the printer this morning. I began writing this book on December 13. Not even six months later, we squeaked under the deadline for its scheduled publication date on July 21. The cover is below, along with a link to the book @C_and_C_Books. Add the code AMODYSSEY20 for a 20% discount. The jacket photo was taken just two weeks ago in the Agora of Athens. Altogether an amazing several weeks, and a very fruitful several months. creedandculture.com/books/american…

@ChroniclesMag Above all, the New Right provokes Field’s ire because it reopens the possibility of a fusionism that includes paleos. Beneath the New Right's major positions lies a paleo substratum. These arguments are finally being addressed, not caricatured. Full review in Chronicles.

@ChroniclesMag This is why Field is fairer to the postliberal faction of the New Right but unleashes her hostility on those factions that echo paleoconservatives like Pat Buchanan, Sam Francis, and Paul Gottfried, the thinkers who laid the foundation of the New Right. (3/4)

The reason why the President can’t get an ambitious agenda passed through Congress is because he has continually endorsed candidates that have stabbed him in the back and undermined him whenever convenient. It’s pretty crazy how over the last eleven years we really haven’t seen a big wave of Senators and Congressmen that are representative of the platform he ran on in 2015 and 2024. @NateMorris was a chance to slightly alter that legacy for the better. Instead we have chosen to prolong McConnell’s grasp on Kentucky. Massive failure.

Proven Political Winner Andy Barr is running for the United States Senate in the Great Commonwealth of Kentucky, a place I love and WON BIG, six times, including Primaries, in 2016, 2020, and 2024! I know Andy well, and he is always a Vote we can count on because he knows what it takes to GET THINGS DONE and, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! I Endorsed Andy years ago, in his first Race, and all others, for Congress, and he never let me down — He is a 100% solid American Patriot! Andy Barr is a Strong Supporter of TERMINATING THE FILIBUSTER, before the Democrats do it (which they will, on Day One, if they get control of the U.S. Senate!). He will do everything in his power to get it done. It is desperately needed by the Republican Party to pass the SAVE AMERICA ACT, and all other things necessary for a strong and brilliant Country! In the Senate, Andy will fight tirelessly to Grow our Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Champion the Interests of our Amazing Farmers and Ranchers, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Unleash American Energy DOMINANCE, Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Strengthen our Military/Veterans, Safeguard our Elections, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment. Andy is the only Candidate who will easily defeat the Democrat in what will be one of the most important Elections in American History. He will help ensure Victory against these Radical Left, Country Destroying, THUGS. Andy Barr has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next United States Senator from Kentucky – HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN! @realDavidBJr Postliberals get careful hearings by the liberal establishment. This is because their positions represent no real threat to the hegemonic left.

"From 2012 to 2024, Democrats moved sharply left on virtually every issue — with electoral results that were precisely the opposite of those expected and intended." That is Ezra Klein's summary of twelve years of Democratic electoral strategy. Ross Douthat arrived at the same conclusion independently. And yet, as William Voegeli demonstrates in a sweeping new essay for the Spring 2026 CRB, the Democratic Party shows no meaningful sign of course correction. Voegeli's argument is not simply that the left wing is winning intra-party fights — though it is. It is that the center cannot win them, because it shares too much of the left's moral framework to mount a principled resistance. When the sole binding axiom of a political coalition is that it stands on the right side of history, the moderate who counsels patience is always vulnerable to the leftist who invokes the fierce urgency of now. The Democratic center's problem, Voegeli concludes, is a theological one. Subscribe to read his full essay in the Spring 2026 CRB. hubs.ly/Q04bk1Vk0

@JohnOSullivanNR In your estimation, how much worse would Magyar be than Orban? It seems to me the difference between the two is not as large or consequential as the difference between center-right and right-wing parties in Western Europe.

The April 2026 Chronicles, "Citizenship Means Something," is online and available for subscribers. Our lead feature this month on birthright citizenship comes as the Supreme Court deliberates over the meaning of the Citizenship Clause in the 14th Amendment. As @WadeMiller argues, the Founding Fathers never intended to grant citizenship to foreigners who happened to be born on America’s shores. Citizenship, properly understood, means sole allegiance to the United States. Citizenship Means Something: chroniclesmagazine.org/view/citizensh… Chronicles Books Editor Mark G. Brennan explores the same topic in his column, "The 14th Amendment Is Not a Suicide Pact." chroniclesmagazine.org/columns/the-14… And @NPinkoski takes the theme one step further in his essay on denaturalization. If recently naturalized citizens break their vow of allegiance to the United States, if they are a detriment to the good order of their new country, there are tools already in the Constitution to strip them of citizenship. "The Vow That Binds: The Case for Enforcing Denaturalization." chroniclesmagazine.org/view/the-vow-t… Chronicles Foreign Affairs Editor Srdja Trifkovic analyzes the U.S.'s strategic situation in Iran and proposes a plan for a swift resolution and exit: "Finding Victory in Iran and a Swift End to the War" chroniclesmagazine.org/columns/the-am… In "Post-Menopausal Radicalism," Carl Horowitz asks why so many older American women embrace left-wing activism. The answers he offers are troubling for the future of democracy in America. chroniclesmagazine.org/society-cultur… Those features, along with book and film reviews, and more, in the April issue, available in full for subscribers here: chroniclesmagazine.org/2026/4/ Support our work and subscribe to Chronicles here: chroniclesmagazine.org/subscribe/
