I spoke with @CBSSacramento today on behalf of the @calsheriffs to share our concerns about the latest state budget deal. Prop 36 was overwhelmingly approved by California voters to address repeat drug and theft crimes. But this latest budget deal doesn’t provide the critical resources needed to make it work leaving no funding for probation, law enforcement, in-custody treatment, or meaningful supervision. Without real support, we risk falling short of what voters demanded. The CSSA stands in solidarity with @Cal_DAA and @CAProbation . Californians deserve better.

Today, I joined public safety leaders across California in urging lawmakers to put Prop 36 into action. Voters made themselves clear, where nearly 70% of Californians supported Prop 36 because they want thieves and fentanyl dealers to stay behind bars. But without funding, that mandate means nothing. We owe it to victims, their families, and every resident in this state to follow through. Prop 36 wasn’t just a policy, it was a promise.

Glad this morning to join with @SenRogerNiello, @Cal_DAA, @calsheriffs, @CAProbation, @SDSheriff and others calling for funding to ensure #Prop36 is implemented. This is not a partisan issue. Prop 36 was overwhelmingly passed by CA's voters. Now it's up to us to honor that vote. It's really that simple.
