“The unionists want to be at Westminster” @akmaciver reacts to the news that Douglas Lumsden is set to run in the Aberdeen South Westminster by-election, just a few days after being re-elected to The Scottish Parliament. The seat will be vacated by Stephen Flynn who is leaving the House of Commons for Holyrood. Does this sum up the attitudes of Unionist and Nationalist politicians towards both parliaments? @CalumAM | @geoffaberdein

EXCLUSIVE from @fintan_03 and @benellery Zack Polanski has admitted he did not vote in last week’s local elections The Green Party leader had previously indicated through a spokesman that he had cast a postal vote in Hackney before spending polling day in Wales, and had publicly told the east London borough’s mayoral candidate: “You have my vote” However, after inquiries by The Times, the party confirmed on Thursday that he had in fact not registered to vote in the elections because of fears for his safety Polanski had pledged his support to Zoë Garbett, the Green candidate for Hackney mayor, telling her “you have my vote” in a campaign video released on May 3 “One consequence of the heightened intrusion and safety risk he faces was that Zack did not register to vote in the most recent local elections,” a spokesman said The party said Polanski had faced “extreme and distressing press intrusion” since becoming leader, including “antisemitic cartoons” and journalists “doorstepping family members”, and was now in discussions with police and local authorities about registering anonymously thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

Rumours are swirling around Labour circles as political commentators discuss speculation over Burnham’s next move. "There’s not many seats that aren’t nailed on for the Greens or Reform now". Has Britain entered a new political era where traditional party loyalties matter less than ever before? #UKPolitics #Whitehall #AndyBurnham @straighttie | @CalumAM

Vote Labour to get Starmer out? Andy Burnham is teeing himself up as the protest vote. Housing Secretary Steve Reed MP says he would be “very happy” if Andy Burnham was selected as the Labour candidate in the Makerfield by-election, but urges colleagues to “take a breath.” x.com/TimesRadio/sta…

“No other figure has that cross-partisan support.” Is Andy Burnham Labour’s only chance of pulling support back from both the Greens and Reform? As Burnham announces his intention to return to Westminster, @LukeTryl and @SophieStowers provide a rundown of where he stands in the eyes of the public. BREAKING: ***Andy Burnham has a potential path back to Westminster*** Josh Simons announces that he is standing down as Labour MP for Makerfield to make way for Andy Burnham There is also no guarantee - even now - that Starmer will allow Burnham to stand. He blocked him before and could try to do so again, even in his weakened position And there is no guarantee that Burnham will win it. Labour won it with a majority of 5,399 at the last election, with Reform in second place. There has been a tectonic shift since then. Reform almost swept the board there at the local elections But it is a big, big moment. Huge pressure on Starmer to allow Burnham to stand

“Really bad politics from him as well, I’m afraid” @geoffaberdein suggests that Russell Findlay’s decision not to meet the First Minister for post election talks is a really poor political decision. He points out that the Scottish Conservatives now sit 5th out of 6 parties in parliament and will struggle to receive air-time, so why would they refuse a chance to get their policy priorities on the record?
