“It’s a soft target, isn’t it? If you close libraries, nobody dies – that’s what they think. But what’s happening is it’s society who suffers and people who suffer.” Says Michael Rosen theguardian.com/books/article/…

We’re off. Join us at the Out of the Ordinary Festival. In the Guildhall sheltering from rain but surrounded by the forest and sounds and smells of nature. Thanks to @Kings_College for their meadow bale. With artists @HilCoxCondron and Caroline Wendling.

Also Lost Words is a truly great work of Art. But you might struggle to take it on holiday - it's very big. You could go on holiday TO its gorgeous pages Or if you opened it upside down, possibly camp in it

Join the AccessArt Tiny Art School Movement! Aimed at reviving a sense of purpose amongst, and appreciation for, artist educators working in our communities, AccessArt has started a body of work to explore, celebrate and promote the notion of “tiny art schools” across the UK. Tapping into existing practice and innovation, we’ll be sharing how artist educators are working with their audiences, using community centres, village halls, and private studio spaces as art education labs, building creative and economic communities of all sizes. We’ll be exploring how the tiny art school concept can be both a viable business model for the artist educator, and help inform a ground-up, inclusive and diverse re-thinking of the purpose and value of art education for all today. We hope to inspire many more artist educators to recognise the purpose and power of their own creativity, and to think about how they can set up tiny art schools in their own name for the benefit of all. I’m doing jury service & today I became the first person ever in England (I think!) to swear a legal oath on a river. With my fingers dipped in water taken from the Roding I stated my juror’s oath as follows: “I swear by the River Roding, from her source in Molehill Green to her confluence with the Thames, that I will faithfully try the Defendant & give a true verdict according to the evidence” The Judge at Snaresbrook Crown Court had never heard of a situation where someone wanted to swear their juror’s oath on a part of Nature before. However, I explained that Nature was my god & I treat the Roding with the same reverence, sacredness & love in action as many religious people give to their holy book. On this basis he was prepared to allow an oath on the river, as long as I gave an affirmation as well, which I did. Here’s to introducing the sacredness of Nature back into our legal system, step by step & piece by piece!

It can be done! When people say it’s just not practically feasible for a river flowing through a major capital city to be clean enough to swim in, we can now point to Paris to say it’s possible. The reason we can’t have such nice things is private greed & political incompetence.

Fair play to BBC correspondent in Paris - Hugh Schofield - for checking out the water quality in the Seine (and without a wetsuit).🇫🇷
