@Dan_Powers_ Nah, we turn to Freddie again game 2, he either rights the ship or we go bus for the road games. Still a lot of hockey left

@BizNasty2point0 @spittinchiclets Roddy boy a whopping 1-13 in ECF now. Always the bridesmaid, eh Rod?

@Blank_Takes If we don’t get out of the east it’s more “trade Aho” territory than it is “fire rod”

Had someone ask me if there is any chance Rod Brind'Amour gets fired if the Canes fail to make it to the Stanley Cup Final this year since it's really the first time in his tenure that the team is an overwhelming favorite to win the ECF.
I told them I really doubt it, because it feels like Rod just has the "lifetime pass" situation going on where he can pretty much coach until he decides it's time to walk away.
I also said that if he were going to be fired, it probably would have already happened years ago. 90% of NHL franchises would have canned him after 3-4 years of playoff failure, that is historically how it works. Some coaches get an even shorter leash than that.
Rod has a well-deserved long leash because he is synonymous with Carolina hockey. The players are 100% bought in to everything that he preaches. Really can't see Dundon ever giving him the axe because I think he is smart enough to know the grass isn't always greener. #SoundTheSiren

@CanesCoveragee1 If we get out of the 1st tied/in the lead the series is already over.

Big Game 1 tomorrow. I expect us to come out physical against this Habs team — Game 1 always sets the tone for the series, and getting off to a strong start is gonna be huge after 12 days off. #SoundTheSiren

I've been waiting a long time to ask this question:
Who will score the 1st goal of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals for the Canes tonight?
And in what period will they score it?

@ice_chip They’re probably disgusted of the locker room.

@HockeyPatrol For shits and giggles, what else (if anything) would Toronto expect in a Aho for AM trade?
English

Untouchables
- Matthew Knies (23, $7.75-million until 2031)
- Easton Cowan (20, $900,000 until 2029)
- Ben Danford (20, $931,000 until 2030)
- Gavin McKenna*
- Dennis Hildeby ($841,000 until 2029)
- Artur Akhtyamov ($900,000 until 2030)
Knies is 23 years old, just had 66 points in 79 games and is locked up with a very reasonable deal for the next six seasons.
There were reports that teams view him higher than Auston Matthews but Toronto smartly said no. He's a future superstar in the league and potentially Toronto's next captain.
Cowan and Danford are the two top prospects in the system right now and with Cowan just coming off a very good rookie season and Danford being viewed as someone who can help as early as next year; they're off limits.
McKenna hasn't been drafted yet though it's highly likely he's the guy that the Maple Leafs and GM John Chayka go after, and there's no way he's getting dealt.
Both Toronto's goalies could offer a great package but with questions about the health of Joseph Woll and Anthony Stolarz; they need insurance.
Two potential starters who can handle playoff pressure is rare and Toronto has four of them now; plus Hildeby and Akhtyamov have both signed long-term extensions - they're part of the future.
So now, we're going to take a look at the rest of the roster and how it shapes up.

As @albhood pointed out, this is a great opportunity for deep recovery for Slavin, Aho, Jarvis, Ehlers and Andersen who played through the Olympic break.

The Carolina Hurricanes will have 12 days off between games, the longest layoff in NHL playoff history 🤯 By the time the Eastern Conference Final begins, Carolina will have played just eight games in 36 days.

@canespowerplay A big change has to happen if we don’t get out of the east, and saying “oh yeah I’d definitely bring Fred back right now” is premature imo.
English

@caniac43 I don’t really think we need to see more from him to make this decision lol. Like dudes been nuts and we have the money so there absolutely zero risk in re signing him.
English

There’s been a lot of talk lately about Freddie and whether he’ll re-sign this offseason. Here’s how I see it: he’s having a great postseason, even if the regular season was a bit underwhelming. If we bring him back, he’d be a solid third option and, more importantly, someone you can trust when the playoffs come around. Given our history, it also feels pretty likely that one of the three goalies could end up hurt at some point, so having reliable depth matters. On a one-year deal in the $1.5–2 million range, I think it makes a lot of sense. We have the cap space, and for that price you’re getting experience, stability, and someone who’s proven he can step up in big moments. What do y’all think? #SoundTheSiren
