@SaveTheLibs @JamesSurowiecki Our government was setup to balance the powers given to the federal government. The Congress represents the people, the Senate represents the state, the President represents both. Without the Electoral College we would have city dwellers dictating agriculture policy.

No, it’s literally the logic behind what our founders did, and it’s literally the tyranny we’d live under if we lost the electoral college. Perhaps electors should be awarded more proportionally than most states’ winner-take-all systems, but we must remain vigilant against the oppressive nature of unfettered democracy.

There's no good civic argument for the electoral college. It was arguably necessary to ensure the ratification of the Constitution, but it's an anti-democratic device that gives some American citizens far more voting power than others, based purely on where they live.

@Dronetakeoff0 @mitchellvii 97% of crude produced by Canada is sold to the US, accounting for 62% of US consumption. Mexico supplies an extra 10-15% of crude. The remainder is accounted for by smaller nations such as Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia leaving only 5-7% from Saudis and Iraqis.

I'm trying to figure something out. The US creates about 15 million barrels of oil a day which isn't enough to fulfill even our domestic demand. Now that the world is coming to us for oil, how do we meet that demand without raising prices?
