Bikes aren't made for roadways either. A 3,000 to 10,000lb or more vehicle traveling at 30-60mph versus a 20-30lb bike with a single rider, either with immediate action capabilities (bikes ride WITH the flow of traffic so have no clue whats coming up behind them most of the time). Or an open-air bike communicating with a pedestrian that they're approaching, pedestrian steps to the side, both parties go about their way. What are the metrics on a bike vs. car accident compared to a bike vs. pedestrian?? You rarely, if ever, hear of "Distracted bicyclist killed pedestrian today" whereas "Distracted driver killed bicyclist today" Sidewalks laws: You can't be a bike. Roadway laws: valid registration, proof of insurance, drivers license, taillights, headlights, seatbelts, DOT-approval, etc, etc, etc. Bikes belong on sidewalks, not roadways. I know its the "law". But the "law" is also retarded.

@canncon @MarshallsFolly Brother, I love you but you're wrong. Bikes are not made for sidewalks. Most places make it illegal to ride them on the sidewalk. Share the road signs are posted and their are bike lanes in many cities.

Sidewalks are for pedestrians, not fat guys moving way faster than their natural limits on an ebike.

Bikes on sidewalks: 10-20mph. Clear communication capability. Easy diversion techniques (step to the side, stop the bike, jump out of the way, ride in the grass, etc). vs. Car doing 45mph with distracted driver and no communication either way due to an enclosed cabin and next to no reaction time. I know what the law is. But the law is dumb.

What if the role was reversed and the family were on bikes, had to be on the roadway, and got smacked by a Corolla who's driver was looking at his phone to update his Uber Eats delivery? What would have worse results? Fat EBiker hitting that father at 10mph, or Corolla hitting a bike at 45mph?
