“Hindu Forum Canada, through its legal representative, is issuing a formal notice to the Honourable Heath MacDonald, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.” Federal support for halal meat production raises serious concerns about equality and state neutrality. Public funding should not prioritize one religious practice while overlooking others, as this risks creating inequality rather than inclusion. Exclusive halal production models raise legitimate questions about employment equity, including whether women and non-Muslims may be indirectly excluded, and whether this aligns with Canada’s human rights framework, which guarantees equal opportunity regardless of gender or religion. Canada is a secular state. Government should not intervene in or invest in production systems that cater exclusively to the requirements of any one religion. Granting special exemptions or preferential treatment risks undermining equality in a diverse society. There is already significant harm within the meat industry. This reality calls for stronger, science-based animal welfare standards, not weaker ones. Conventional slaughter methods require animals to be rendered unconscious before bleeding, minimizing pain. Allowing exemptions on religious grounds raises serious ethical and policy concerns that warrant public review.

Today, community members gathered at Ken Whillans Square to raise the National Flag of Palestine at City Hall for the first time. The City’s Flag Policy supports charitable and non-profit organizations representing nations recognized by Canada. With the Government of Canada’s official recognition of the State of Palestine on September 21, 2025, this request aligned with City policy, giving the community an opportunity to come together in recognition. Today, we were proud to see the Palestinian flag raising at the Mississauga City Hall. There is a light shining - as Canadians stand up for the right thing.

Thanks to tireless advocacy from our community, the TDSB has passed a landmark motion recognizing anti-Palestinian racism in schools. This is a historic step forward, but it didn’t happen by accident.

Today, the leaders of Canada, the United Kingdom, and France issued a joint statement strongly opposing the expansion of Israel’s military operations in Gaza and any attempts to expand settlements in the West Bank. Read the full statement: ow.ly/nhp250VVh5h

BREAKING: Donald Trump plans on Ethnic Cleansing Palestine: “All of them. Theres 1.7 or 1.8 million people. They can settle, all of them to areas where they can live a beautiful life and not be worried about dying everyday”

Breaking: In an important departure from its staunchly pro-Israel record, @CanadaUN just voted “YES” on a UN resolution to condemn Israel’s illegal settlements and affirm the ICJ advisory opinion. Canada had been voting against this resolution since 2011. It passed 152-9.

The Crown’s recent decision to withdraw charges in a widely reported Canadian hijab-pulling case has reignited concerns about systemic bias in the justice system, leaving Muslim women across the country in a state of disbelief. In justifying the dismissal of charges, Assistant Crown Attorney Moiz Karimjee argued that the victim’s chant, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” could reasonably be understood as a “call for genocide of the Jewish people”. This weak and dubious justification disregards the chant’s well-known context as a Palestinian freedom slogan, effectively excusing a violent act that has been denounced as a hate crime by the Canadian Muslim Public Affairs Council. The incident occurred in Ottawa in May, when 74-year-old Lorna Bernbaum approached protester Hayfa Abdelkhaleq, held up a middle finger, and pulled down her hijab - a blatant attack on Abdelkhaleq’s dignity and safety. The Crown’s rationale for withdrawing charges reveals a troubling bias in the Canadian justice system. When the subjective motives of the attacker are prioritised over the victim’s rights, the rule of law is undermined. Canadians should be outraged at the erosion of fundamental rights for political interests. middleeasteye.net/opinion/canada…
