🧵 about #class #privilege and #privateeducation. Watching the Olympic swimming last night and Clare Balding said something in such an incredulous tone which summed up the establishment perspective and how their experience differs. 1/

Bigots are so convinced their hate is serving them, despite continuing to be miserable. Constantly afraid of receiving the same level of persecution they dish out. The commitment to to it is frightening

This quote, from Mahershala Ali’s character, George, in Netflix’s ‘Leave The World Behind’ - apply this to bigots: “Nothing frightens me more, than a person unwilling to learn. Even at their own expense. That’s a darkness I will never understand.”

A society that doesn’t make things accessible, on the basis that disabled people *could* chose to no longer be disabled, isn’t a society with free choice at all

Even if treatment offered was free, painless, guaranteed to never have negative side effects - people should still have the right to chose it for themselves

A utopian society wouldn’t *only* include tech and medicine that could potentially eradicate disabilities and illnesses A utopian society would be built on autonomy first as a principle, and would cater for all people and their choices

But when you ask that question, what you’re really doing is showing me that you think I’m a problem, to which there is a solution Sorry not sorry to disappoint

“Why can’t you just be a woman who’s a bit masculine sometimes?” Because I want no part in fucking gender crap, that’s why. I don’t want my every physical and personality trait fucking categorised like that

Rejection and dismissal is painful. Being an unapologetic fat and queer person, makes my life harder in many ways But what’s the alternative? Sacrificing who I am, to play a part that *might* grant me an absence of rejection, just long enough for someone to exploit me? No

When that performance becomes intrinsically linked to your survival, it makes sense that people showing you another way would be perceived as dangerous

The queer agenda is literally just promoting autonomy And that shouldn’t be scary but, it is, if you’ve been raised as a commodity. A commodity who’s only sources of love, joy and sanctuary, come from performing for others

@CarrieBeeInNC Yeah I’m ok, thank you. Online friends have been a genuine lifesaver. I just feel quite sad about getting it so wrong with people irl and just feeling a general sense of distrust now

@cara_macb 2/ It’s not as if I’d been giving to them/helping them and expecting something in return— I genuinely wasn’t expecting anything. Reaching out and finding little to no support has been heartbreaking. Idk what I’d do without the friends I’ve made online💗 Are you doing ok?

Making friends is hard because a lot of people seem to only view other humans as commodities I have often felt what I thought was genuine caring from someone, only to discover they were keeping me sweet so long as I was of use to them
